In the last few days I tried out a new batting, a Bamboo/Cotton blend, 50%/50%. Maybe you are interested in how it looks like when it is handquilted. I didn't prewash the batting.

I see that you want to keep me hypnotized.
You must have 100s of items you have done. Do you have a count? What do you do with them? You show us so many wonderful things. You would need a warehouse to store all of them.
Very beautiful.

Gorgeous and it looks like bamboo batting works fine;> Though some people have raised concerns about chemicals in it... I've not tried it, yet.

Borntohandquilt 06-05-2010 10:06 AM

Sorry, Dorothy... I hope you feel fine! I will stop right now posting pictures for today. :-)
I think I have done about 40 or 45 wholecloth until today. Some of them hang on the wall in our house, some I made as a present, some are for exhibitions and the rest just stay in my closet. I also use them as demonstration material for my workshops.

Well, this quilt will be a wall hanging, so I don't care so much about chemicals in it in that case. Fortunately I'm not allergic at all.

Beautiful effect. Price wise how does it compare to warn and natural?

Panda 06-05-2010 10:18 AM

Beautiful!

redquilter 06-05-2010 10:38 AM

What gorgeous quilting. Don't let those quilts sit in your closet - send them to me!

littlehud 06-05-2010 11:34 AM

That turned out beautiful. Great job.

ckcowl 06-05-2010 11:40 AM

i love working with the bamboo batting, it is so soft and easy to needle, and washes well too, no shrinkage, good drape...
very nice quilting too ;)

hcarpanini 06-05-2010 11:43 AM

Your quilting is outstanding! I have used the bamboo batting in machine quilting as well, and it quilts like a dream.

Beautiful! I must try Bamboo Batting.

mrspete 06-05-2010 01:20 PM

Is the bamboo batting such as the bamboo yarn, made in Turkey? Love crocheting with it and it is soooooo soft you'd think you are using cashmere!

Blessings,
Ruth

Again, Born to Quilt your quilting is always so very lovely. I have used the bamboo in a machine quilted baby quilt. Would you like me to post it here? I do not want to run away with your thread, just to show how it quilts up with machine quilting. I liked how it worked out for me. The batting feels so silky, I really like it.

I have a close friend who tried the bamboo batting when it first came out and it bearded something horrible. I noticed a couple of little white dots on your piece and wondered if it was still having the bearding problem it used to.

Your quilting is gorgeous!

I love your quilts. Can't get enough of them. I have felt the bamboo, but can't afford to use it.
Your work is gorgeous.

raksmum 06-05-2010 10:51 PM

You did this in the last few days? Beautiful! It would take me a few months I'm sure to do that.
I have used the bamboo in machine quilting and love it. I can see how you would like it to hand quilt with

earthwalker 06-05-2010 10:54 PM

No, I can't say it's bearding. There are just some fibres of the batting edges that are not covered with fabric and you can brush them off very easily. They don't come through the fabric, just lay on it. I used a lighter colored thread for quilting I tried to avoid points where stitches meet - but obviously this doesn't work perfectly.

I have posted this before and am doing it now to show how the bamboo batting worked with the machine quilting. After I washed it the batting shrunk a very tiny bit, just enough to puff out a little in the areas with no quilting, making the stitches show even more. It is very soft and drapes well. Noah's Mommy reports that he likes his quilt.

sandpat 06-06-2010 06:41 AM

I'll have to try the Bamboo if you are getting results like both of these  ...oh wait...I have to be able to put together quilts and designs this beautiful first to get those results

turtlerouge 06-06-2010 06:53 AM

That is what I was thinking. I would have to be able to piece that well and quilt that well first. Funny!
I enjoy looking at you quilts so much.
And Pam your baby quilt is adorable. Well worth the second look.

 You are too funny!

It sounds like the bamboo batting has improved from what it was like when it first came out a couple years ago. I'll have to keep my eye out for it and try it out.

As for cost, I would think that once it has found a nitch in the market it should be cheaper then cotton or wool or polyester batting. The entire point of it is that it is a green product. Bamboo only takes 8 weeks or so to regrow and as such it should end up costing much less then other bats because it is easily renewable. Doesn't that make sense?

Borntohandquilt 06-06-2010 11:41 AM

Pam, I really like the colors you've used for Noah's quilt! They are so bright and cheerful--- just right for kids!
Great!

Pam 06-06-2010 12:04 PM

Thank you everyone for the compliments on my baby quilt. Do try the bamboo batting, it is very nice.
