Hi Everyone.
I want to embark on making a Bargello Quilt,
and these are the fabrics I have chosen.
Please let me know what you think.
Regards Marlene.

Having not done a bargello, take this opinion for what it is worth....I like your fabrics, but I think I would change the order.

I'm making my first bargello too! I struggled for days with the order of my fabric. Still not sure I got it right, but it's all sewn together so I'm forging ahead. Love your fabric colors. I, too, would probably change the order of your fabric (but it's totally your choice). Bargellos typically are designed with the idea of a graduation of color values from one to the next. So, I would try going from the pinks to the purples to the blues and then see where you want that pop of color with the green, yellow and orange. If you want the striking contrast from one color the next, go with it. In the end, it will be beautiful either way and it has to be what you want. Hope you'll post your progress!

I have only done 1 bargello, but I think from what I have seen that you need to have more contrast in value of fabric. I looks like most of yours are medium value and I think you would need lights and darks also to get the effect.

I downloaded your image and created this "mock" photo of how this will look in the order you have laid out. Hope this helps.

it may depend on your pattern also. Take a photo in black and white and check on the contrast of the fabrics.

The fabrics will definitely play with each other nicely, but do need to be re-arranged. Nice selection of solids and prints and the prints have good segue's to the next fabric.

Have you chosen a pattern yet or are you making your own?

I agree. Your colors are fabulous but it seems you need more contrast. They seem to be mostly the same value.

PurplePassion 07-24-2011 06:21 AM

Nancy , what a great feature you have , to be able to do that.

ckcowl 07-24-2011 06:27 AM

the fabrics are beautiful but seem to be all medium values-
try printing in grayscale- to see the contrast across the fabrics- it makes it easier to get them in the correct order- and you can see where it all just blends together- without contrast.
it is hard sometimes to get a good (flow) from light to dark- seems most of us tend to have alot of medium.
maybe you could just add a couple more fabrics- and do some rearranging--the grayscale picture really helps get them in the right order.

I love your fabrics. I think I would move the lone lavender one over to the other purple shades and the blue ocean one over to the blues. But bargellos are such fun I don't really know if it matters that much what order they are in.

I've never done a Bargello, but I can help with a gray-scale photo.

I think it will be beautiful

Not EQ. I downloaded a program called gimp2 that my brother told me about. He says it's similar to Photoshop, but without the price tag... it's free :-) http://gofree.com/download/Windows-S...esign/gimp.php

Normally I use Paint Shop Pro - but I have new computer and can't find my disc to load it! lol.

Very clever and helpful!

pippa45 08-03-2011 04:23 AM

Wow, thank you ever so much for that, I love it, what is your opinion. ???

pippa45 08-03-2011 04:26 AM

Thank you for that, it gives a different light to it all together.

MelodyWB 08-03-2011 04:29 AM

I do Bargello's .. your fabric looks good to me..you want to look at your pattern..and make sure you'll like the order in which you laid it out..that it will work for you in that design..sometimes I find I have to change the order if it's going to end up in a certain way on the design wall !

Mariposa 08-03-2011 04:40 AM

Pretty fabrics, but would rearrange them~~

Just Me... 08-03-2011 06:10 AM

You need to change out one or two of the tonals to something with a little more print.....they can be the same color....JMHO

That was so nice of you! You must have some cool quilting software or something! I hope that helps this poster make up their mind. I like it either way! I will say it again.....quilters are just nicer than the average person!

mimom 09-27-2011 07:48 AM

that'll work

cbridges22 09-27-2011 07:49 AM

I make bargello's and I think you need some more variation in values to get the best pattern display or it could all run together.

that's cool. How did you do that. I'd love to do a bargello in the near future and being able to download a mock block would help with color placement.
