Anyone else use a clever idea??

Elle, I am a person that if I can't find what I want, lots of time, I invent it...or maybe I just think I was the first, lol.
Hubby gets sodas in these 12" x 16" boxes, I take two and cut off one long side, slide them together and duct tape them. I can make them the size I need. I use them for WIP's...blocks, stack them with different parts of quilt I am working on...use them to sort pages of mag pics I cut out to put in notebooks...oh, me and boxes make a great team...should have been a kitty cat...I keep ona saying...but then I'm really a lab, they're curious too! :D

another idea I have, is to use the mesh plastic canvas stuff to make the size 'boxes' I want. you could either do the yarn on it, or even glue on fabrics, for a very pretty box.
If I wasn't so gosh darn busy right now.

I'm fairly new here and you other quilters have already gotten to me! I came back to this thread to tell gcathie that her beautiful quilt has inspired me to buy the book. And it looks like I'm not the only one! I'm really not crazy about alot of the color choices in the book, but will add some of these patterns to my to-do list.

I don't know if I made confession before, but I, too, have purchased the book from my local quilt store.
And, I am reading through this thread and have decided that GCATHIE owns stock in that publishing company, or something! LOL
Now, to get through the WIPs I have to get to working on making one of these fine quilts.
GCATHIE is owed my grateful thanks for giving me something to do to keep the local economy going -- and, making the world a happier place by sharing the quilt with whomever in your immediate vicinity and our list.
Good job!

gcathie 05-28-2009 09:42 AM

  Awwww you girls are to much.....I just followed the book....I sure wish I did own stock......:-) .......and I think it would be great to start a project.....called "Twisted Bargello" and everyone could show and tell.......:-)

omak 05-28-2009 10:10 AM

I am definitely going to have to learn how to take pictures and upload them ... JUST to prove I know what I am doing <g>.
A lifetime of pursuing "Jack of all trades, master of none" accounts for more verbiage than it may be worth! LOL

jbsstrawberry 05-28-2009 07:28 PM

I'm not sure how I missed it when you first posted it...but all I can say is WOW that is one AWESOMELY BEAUTIFUL quilt!!! Ya know I'm gonna have to find this book now too, you really should get a kick back from the publisher!!

JCL in FL 05-28-2009 09:27 PM

OMG that is gorgeous. That's on my list of things to do. I even have a pattern. Yours is beautiful. Makes me want to go out and start buying the fabric in stead of finishing the quilts I have started. Shame on you!! for tempting me to start another quilt when my resolution this year was to finish the ones I have started and not start another one until I finish one.

So .... :-) ... curious minds want to know .... how long will it take you to finish the next two quilts on your list?

(no pressure here! LOL)

One is really close. I hand quilt but I predict next week. Whew! that means I get to go shopping, one down. I get to start another one. Hey by some standards I'm pretty good, I'm only working on four. Quilting one, one ready to quilt, one all done need to assemble and one I've cut out and ready to sew.

gcathie 05-29-2009 05:46 AM

Okay Thanks everyone.....but this is why I machine sew and I quilt with a longarm machine so I can get another quilt going......:-).......It would just take me to long to hand sew anything.....What patience you must have...:-)

gcathie 05-29-2009 05:49 AM

Thanks Lisa.....hope to see one from you soon.....:-) ....Should be ooooddddddlllllleeeesssss of Twisted Bargellos soon......:-)......

gaigai 05-29-2009 06:00 AM

Wow, gcathie, you read my mind!!! I was looking at your avatar and thinking that I needed to pm you and find out what the pattern is, and here you post it! AND, I just bought the Bargello book last week!! Sounds like fate to me. Now I'm really going to have to try to make one. Of course it won't be half as gorgeous as yours!!!

gcathie 05-29-2009 06:04 AM

I'm sure it will be.....seems like no matter what color it is a stunning pattern....I can't wait to see other Bargello's on here......sure been a lot of books sold.....:-).....

rayone 06-04-2009 05:59 AM

Wow, that is just beautiful! I love your color choices!

CRH 01-31-2010 09:28 PM

gcathie: Ok, I bought the book and finally got a chance to look through it and am totally confused. Since I have too many WIPs for now, can't start this one yet, but would like to make some notes in the book for the future.

Which pattern did you use? I don't see one just like yours.Did you just make more squares and add them, or did I not recognize your pattern??

What size blocks did you use for your quilt? the 7" or 9"??
(Most of the projects in the book are too small for what I want.)

gcathie 02-03-2010 02:28 PM

I know the book can be confusing because you have to go back and forth in the book ......page 40 is the size stips I used and how many strips they want you to cut ...look at the first page of this topic.....I did a 7 inch block....just make 4 blocks and see how it goes and if you want to make more....you just repeat that same block......lay it out anyway you like.....have fun with it...let me know how it goes.....and GOOD LUCK......:-)

Grandma Cindy 02-03-2010 03:58 PM

I think yours is even prettier than the one on the front of the book, wonderful color selections!

I have bought books through them and never had any problems.

THis is where I search for books before paying full price in the quilt stores.

thank you for the site, I just bought five books and much cheaper than amazon...

CRH 02-03-2010 06:55 PM

gcathie: Thanks for the answer. I especially like your center, so am hoping the lay of the blocks will create that.

I also agree YOURS is much much more beautiful than any in the book!

CRH 02-03-2010 06:56 PM

Grandma Cindy: glad you found some good things. This is the site I check first when I know what book I need.

gcathie 02-03-2010 07:26 PM

Thanks Ladies for the comments....:-).....good luck making the one you like....I look forward to seeing some Twisted Bargello's on here.......>:-)

craftybear 03-26-2010 07:47 PM

Wow, I love it!

Barb_MO 07-20-2010 08:29 PM

This is a really pretty quilt and done so well. I'm always drawn to bargello quilts and am always thinking of making another one. I must get this book. Thanks for the links in the other thread.

nana pat 07-20-2010 08:45 PM

I have never liked the Bargello Pattern,,,,,until now! I want to make this one, so I guess I have to rush right out and buy, buy, buy.
Not.
No rushing here. I have to wait for the third of next month, then, and not before then, (note to self)I can rush, rush, rush. :c)

LeeAnn 07-21-2010 04:47 AM

Wow! Very pretty. I love the colors.

wesing 07-21-2010 06:28 AM

Cathie - your quilt is beautiful; the colors are so rich and flow so well. Somehow I missed this thread the first time around, so I'm glad someone brought it back to life. This is definitely on our to-do list.

For everyone who is a member of AQS, their magazine has a pattern from the book in the most recent issue. The cover has a star pattern quilt and the feature story is "Quilts of Hollywood" or something similar.

Diane007 11-03-2012 08:24 AM

great... nice colours
love how it went together

Just Me... 11-03-2012 10:23 AM

Love those colors and that quilt!

RedGarnet222 11-03-2012 10:28 AM

This was the original post that inspired me to make the quilt in my avatar and buy this book. CathyG was a great teacher and is missed by one person on this board very much. I wish she would come back and show us some more of her beautiful award winning work.

It took me two years to gather the fabrics and the book, but I did it.

Dal Lady 11-03-2012 12:07 PM

wow, love your colors.

Luv Quilts and Cats 11-03-2012 12:20 PM

Very beautiful!

Bluelady 11-03-2012 12:28 PM

Gorgeous! Is it the same block through out the whole quilt? It is amazing!

annpryor 11-03-2012 05:54 PM

That is a a very pretty quilt. Good job girl.
