EnjoyMyQuilting posted her new Barn Quilt on her newly painted barn and was so pretty. In reading all the posts on her barn, it gave me an idea....I do not have a barn but I have a nice garden shed. So I am going to do one for the garden side of the shed and on the other side that faces a main street. It will be so perfect because when people stop at the stop sign they will be able to see the barn quilt and the nices thing of all is....we have a private drive behind us to a nursing home and their long drive to go in and it will be seen by all.....see pics of the shed and give me your opinions.... this will be a great winter project for me to do for sure. I will be painting my garden shed and updating all .....thanks for giving me a new project EnjoyMyQuilting......!!!!! I might have to start before winter now that I am so excited.....

Great idea. I was thinking of doing one above my garage door, as one door is taller than the other. I have a log home, and thought it would be great there. 4x4 Please post pictures of yours when it is complete.

That would be a nice view, for people driving through. I bought a 12" piece of board to paint a block on this winter, for my garden shed.

I am having problems adding pics, do not know why....will keep trying

I too was inspired by her barn quilt. I don't have a barn or a shed, & when I broached the subject with my DH, he wasn't too keen about one on our house either. So I've decided that I am going to do a Fence Quilt on the fence in our backyard. It may not be seen by the whole neighborhood but it will be a pretty cool conversation piece when we entertain in our backyard. :)

Sounds like an excellent idea to me.

You even gave me another idea, when painting the shed, I could put a "border" around on 2x4's or little bigger of the same design and really draw attention, what u think... :D or mayb a border around the sign, yeah......opinions, just so it is not too much but small.....a little different than most

This is so exciting for sure, to think of all the places we can put a barn quilt, even though they should be on a barn I guess. We all enjoy quilting so much, do not think it matters and all the ways to share this is great...I am so glad I decided to post what I felt for sure. Can't wait to hear all that are inslpired. Just love your idea on the fence for sure, wow. Now, u gave me another idea, I might have to post one on the fence facing the nursing home so they can sit out and enjoy and see. U can see the fence so close in the back of the first pic....so excited..thanks

great ideas, will be great for others to enjoy it

maybe you could make some for the nursing home so they can also enjoy them

do they have an idea where the residents can go outside like in a courtyard area

ask the owner of the nursing home

also you could make some to hang inside on the walls for all of them to enjoy, I bet that would put some smiles on their faces each day

I can just see that

U r so right ...wow. What a contribution for sure and to make a smile on their faces. If u look at the first pic I posted here, u can see the fence in the background of the courtyard where they come out and sit. So a few around the fence inside or how about on a stake in diff. areas around the courtyard, etc. I am sure there are a few that use to quilt and sew in the home and would enjoy it so much.....as long as it would not make them sad that they cannot do it any more is all.....thanks for the ideas....in fact, mayb a painting class for a 10x10" block to set on a desk or table in their room, more personable.....check and see if anyone would enjoy a class to do, etc. even the men might b interested......just an idea, what u think...Only thing is, if get painting will not have time for quilting...... Yet I could go all over and do this...hmmmm

Nettie Phillips 08-28-2011 05:52 PM

I think it would be a great idea for all to enjoy.

EnjoyMyQuilting 08-28-2011 05:53 PM

Oh I am so excited! All the love and the joy that you will bring to the residents in the nursing home! It does give yourself a sense of pride and joy when you can display your work of art. Please post pictures when finished and have fun with it!!

I have always loved barn quilts and I have a friend in Ohio who has a barn, I suggested that she make a barn quilt and she did not know what I was talking about. LOL I now live in an apartment but have a wide porch/balcony and I plan to make my own barn quilt. I will be painting it on canvas and hanging so that it can be seen by all. That will probably be my winter project. Cannot wait to get it done.I am proud to be a quilter!
