The moon is cutaway under the mountain, so you fuse that piece first.

Did you cut a circle out of the mountain fabric to show the moon? Could you explain this a little further...not sure I'm understanding this correctly.

No. First you cut out the moon. The bottom center of the moon piece has "pie wedge" cut out. You fuse the moon to the background square first. Then you fuse the mountain piece over the top of that, placing the top half of mountain right over the wedge that has been cutaway from the moon. Hope that helps...I could draw it easier than explaining it, I think!

Thanks, I got it now...that way you only have two layers of fabric.
This pattern was to be in my first sampler quilt. the quilt was to be put together by hand...I substituted another block for the moon over the mountain, so have never made this block.

Your quilt is going to be gorgeous.

Neat, I've never seen this pattern before.

This is really gorgeous, he is going to love it! I do fused applique too. I didn't know it was an applique pattern, I thought it was pieced. Your way makes more sense.

I love it! It's so different!

We went to the Cascade Mountains on part of our honeymoon trip ages ago. I would love to go back.
My favorite one is the black one with the golden moon.
This is going to be a real beauty!

Great quilt. My DH climbs mountains and I have seen this pattern before, but never thought of making him a quilt out of it. Thanks for the idea!

What a great idea for your brother's quilt - and the fabrics are beautiful - it is going to be a fantastic quilt!

I love it. I just started applique and embroidery also. Machine edging as I see you didnt turn the fabric.. are you using a blanket stitch or a tight zig zag? does this hold up for washing or is this a wall quilt. I use fuseable but its so stiff I figured it was good for a wall quilt but not a bed. Am I wrong?
