I wonder if a shredder would work.

I have heard that putting out cotton scraps for the birds, both fabric and batting, is not a good idea. If it gets wet in their nests it can take a long time to dry out. I'm in the NE of England of course!! :o

I do love the idea of pinning a patch to your clothes to put odd threads on.

I use my cutting mat. When I'mall done with the current batch of batting, I use a pencil eraser (the white, rectangular one) on the cutting mat. It works to get the batting bits out of the mat. Then, I just vacuum my mat. (The canister vacuum is always plugged in and located in my sewing room, the most vacuumed room in the house!).

That is a great idea!

keep your scrap can nearby. stuff you're tossing. As you cut batting, every so often grab a handful of scraps and swipe over your board. Pulls batting out before gets caught tight. can also use sandpaper but don't rub hard just lightly, grabbing batting not sanding.

I toss mine in a lined garbage can with material scraps and when that's full, it's time to make stuffed beds for animals and donate. I have a lot less garbage from my sewing room! Love the idea of cutting some to fit my Swifter, thanks for the tip!

Oh yeah, Jules51 reminded me, yesterday while I cleaned the house, I remembered what I had read on here about using scrap batting on a Swifter, OMG... I was just amazed at the difference, it picked up way more then the ones that Swifter makes. Now I have another way to use scrap batting.

I am saving things for dog beds and this is a super idea. I also love the idea for the Swifter will have to try that. Thanks ladies. BrendaK
