What a darling quilt...something they will treasure for sure.

I think your quilt is fabulous! I can't believe it's your first.
I love raw edge applique myself because I'm too lazy to turn under the edges.

Thanks! I thought the raw edge would be better for me because I really didn't think I'd do a very good job of turning all those curves under, or doing them consistently. What I do like about the applique stitch is that it seemed to "fit" the flavor of a teddy bear..

I use the term "wabi sabi folk" for what I do. (Wabi Sabi is, as I understand it, Japanese for, basically, the art of not being perfect.)

My neighbor Judy said something similar...she said the Indians always purposely put in some imperfections because only God (Great Spirit) is perfect. I told her that made me feel a lot better...:)

Thank you! I tried to think about each fabric and color to use on the bears; for January, I used old sweatshirt pieces for the sweater and hat, a scrap of denim for the pants, and a white knit I had for the snowballs. Most of the clothes were made from scraps and fused on, then stitched.

I was trying to get a balance of the objects around the bears, and July was challenging. I found the little flag at JoAnn's which was a fusible embroidery piece, but I was suspicious about whether or not it would stick. (It didn't, after the first wash, so I have to handstitch it back on), but the fireworks I did with metallic thread...I would have liked to done them in more colors, but didn't have any on hand. I actually considered doing the other blocks with simple stitching like that (snowflakes for January, posies for May, abc and 1+1 for September), but it was starting to get involved, and I'm not that good yet. But, there's an idea for my next one, or for someone who wants to try the pattern.

Anyway, thanks!

OK you lurker, you! This is a precious quilt. What flaws?

LOL! Oh man, my stitches in the ditch, rough corners, the little squares anchoring the sashing not lining up... but it should be service-able. I forgive myself for some of the goofs, chalking it up to learning experiences. My construction is a little strange, as I've since seen some tutorials here that make more sense, but I know now to allow more fabric for squaring blocks, and to have a better plan up front.

Thanks for your kind words! I'm encouraged...

LOL! That's exactly what I said, when I started this! So good to know there are kindred hearts, here! Inch by inch, anything's a cinch. I committed to doing a little every day, and trying to do things well, rather than fast.

Your warts must be invisible cause all I see is a very ambitious first quilt. It is too cute. I am sure your friend Grace and her new grandbaby will love it. Welcome to the board from Denver.
