Well, I got my sewing room cleaned tonight. I am so proud! I still can't find the jelly roll and fat quarters left from making my DGD's purse back in the summer. I put it somewhere just a couple weeks ago.

What a great idea for file cabinets. Too bad I have such a small room.

AlwaysQuilting 11-11-2010 05:02 PM

Oh oh---
your "before" photo looks better than my sewing room does.
If you want to see a mess, just look in my sewing room window (if you can see around the fabric pile.)

cherrybsixty 11-11-2010 05:07 PM

Grann, what inside that bentwood case? Can we see pics of it? Congrats, on your clean, everything is gorgeous. Don't you hate it when you clean and you can't find what you just had.

mommamac 11-11-2010 05:08 PM

I don't have a sewing room yet so don't have much in the way of fabric but the posts on this site of 'before' & 'after' inspired me. So much so that I volunteered to help a SIL organized her room next week - that is if she can get the door open!!

PunkQuilter 11-11-2010 05:14 PM

It looks like you're ready for company! Perhaps a friend in fiber from a neighboring state?? ;)

Come on over! There is always room for a fellow sewing addict.

MISHNJIM 11-11-2010 05:22 PM

quiltlonger 11-11-2010 05:24 PM

SLHughes 11-11-2010 05:34 PM

Love your sewing room :)

SuziC 11-11-2010 05:47 PM

What a great space...good clean up job!

Jingle 11-11-2010 05:47 PM

I like the after pics. Looks so nice.
I have to keep mine all put away, I share my sewing room with 4 cats, 1 wants to drag out things and a couple want to lay on everything. The same cat likes to open doors, can't get the door open to tall cabinet that houses my fabric or he would have it all out of there so he could lay on the shelves.

Thanks everyone! I may actually get that quilt on the big table finished tomorrow. I just have to do a little more quilting and put the binding on it. Then I'll post pics of it. I am bound and determined to find that fabric; really irritates me that I hid it so well.

tuesy 11-11-2010 06:08 PM

You have a beautiful space. Love seeing everyone's place they create in.

Jabear617 11-11-2010 06:11 PM

Wow! You have been busy! It all looks good:)

littlehud 11-11-2010 06:13 PM

OMG what a transformation. I'm impressed. Now it's time to mess it up again.

Latrinka 11-11-2010 07:14 PM

You go girl! Wish I could get motivated to do some much needed cleaning! Can't get away from this computer and my sewing machine!

lizzy 11-11-2010 07:24 PM

Would love to have a large table like you have to lay my quilts out. I have to use my king size bed and then Molly thinks I have fixed a new quilt for her to claim.

featherweight 11-11-2010 07:30 PM

Isn't it a great feeling to have it all organized?? Love your studio!

aorlflood 11-11-2010 10:19 PM

Looks really nice! Now get in there and sew! :)

bourvel 11-12-2010 04:35 AM

Wow, what a great area you have, I'm jealous, could you explain how your cutting table with the files cabinets was made, that is exactly what I need.

When I had my basement finished off I told the guy that I wanted a 60"x80" table with storage underneath and on wheels so it could be moved. He said custom cabinetry would half again the cost of the renovation, so suggested the file cabinets. I love them, have all my quilting fabric in them. The top is just plywood which I covered with 2 layers of thick wool, some batting and then the ironing board fabric. He made a big plywood base that it all sits on. The cutting table is made the same way, but has a formica top on it. The two can be rolled together for huge projects. I do window treatments for people so that is a big plus.

CarrieAnne 11-12-2010 04:55 AM

Yes, I have 4 that I use all the time, a 5th that is actually my DGD's that I use occasionally. They are all Vikings, the Diamond, the SE, the Topaz 30, the D1 and my DGD's is a Viva. Then I have a treadle, a hand crank, my mother's old machine, my neighbor's machine her husband gave me when she died, a freebie from another neighbor, and a couple I just acquired. Plus I have 2 sergers and a blind hemmer.

Darn, after seeing your stash, I need to find another name for mine! I have shelves lining 2 walls above the door frames in my dining room of my 1br apt, and I have made mini bolts for my fabric so I can see it. But Stash? More like Stashlet at the very least! Or at least a Stash-Start!

I didn't show you the fleece section. The one on the left in the picture is mostly flannels; the one on the right is the larger pieces of quilting cottons; the fat quarters and 1/2 yd pieces are in the file drawers according to color and type, ie batiks, fall, Christmas, pastels, etc. It is my goal in the next year to greatly reduce the size of the stash, by sewing of course.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-15-2010 09:01 AM

Wow, Grann!! You have a great room and did a great job! LOOOOVE your old machine and case! What a treasure :)

Chasing Hawk 11-15-2010 09:08 AM

Did you ever find the fabric you were looking for?

grann of 6 11-15-2010 09:48 AM

Yes, I had a dream about it. It was in a storage bin on the other side of the basement by the furnace. That bin only held Christmas scraps.....till I put those strips and fat quarters in there. There were some others in there too. Don't ask me why I put them there.

fidgety 11-15-2010 09:50 AM

Wow I wish I had stash like that!!!!!

Jeananne 11-17-2010 11:25 AM

Wow, love all of the fabric! Is your iron a Shark? Hubby bought me one here awhile back when my old iron died (I go thru irons like crazy) and I love this iron!

Yes, my last iron kept blowing fuses. I had heard Sharks were more electricity friendly (don't know if that is true). And one time I got my rebate check from BJ's wholesale club, so decided to treat myself to the Shark. It heats up fast, turns off if I forget to unplug it, and reheats fast when out of use for 10 minutes. Then after I got the new iron, my youngest son called and asked if I had an iron I didn't use. So guess where the old one went?!?!
