My son took my old Singer cabinet apart for me today and I started stripping varnish. Wood is beautiful.

HOWEVER! I just did the lid and one fold down piece ---------without rubber gloves. Darn that stuff burns. I've not done any stripping for a good while and forgot how mean that stripper can be.

Anyway, results so far............

LOL, believe me, I'm buying rubber gloves tomorrow. I'm always fascinated by how beautiful bare wood can be.

I'm going to finish this with a satin polyethylene.

I thought the metal frame was in good shape, but it's a tad rusty, so I'll have hubby sandblast it and reapply enamel-----------and maybe even gold leaf on the name and symbol.

You can't even buy wood of that quality any more. It will be gorgeous when done and well worth the effort. Wish I had a treadle cabinet to refinish.

Please make sure to wear eye protection also. One splash of a very small size could really damage your eye.
The wood is really beautiful.
