Before I knew better!

I made this quilt years ago, when I was a novice. I think it turned out okay for not knowing what I was doing. I did the blanket stitch around each dresden with grey thread - ha ha. I didn't know to match the thread to the fabric at that time. Same with the flowers. Sorry the pic is sort of blurry. :o

WOW! If you didn't know what you were doing, I'd like to see what you are doing now! This is a beautiful quilt. Are you going to the Sisters Quilt show? If so, I plan to go and may see you there.

I think you did a great job. I really like that pattern. Very pretty.

nativetexan 06-03-2013 08:04 AM

there is no rule that says you must match your thread to the colors of the fabrics. it's a great quilt!!!

nygal 06-03-2013 08:08 AM

Non matching threads just make a pattern stand out better - just my opinion

QuiltnNan 06-03-2013 06:26 PM

What a great first quilt. Sometimes we surprise ourselves when we just jump in making a quilt without someone telling us we're not good enough or have enough experience to make. You go girl. Can't wait to see what you're doing now - I'm sure it's amazing.

bibi 06-05-2013 06:05 AM

Very lovely. You should be very pleased with this quilt.

cpcarolyn 06-05-2013 06:44 AM

I like you quilt. Way too well done to be called novice. Would love to see some of your current work if this was don when you didn't know what you were doing!

IBQUILTIN 06-05-2013 09:06 AM

You have some really great instincts. Wish I could do so well when starting out. That one is a treasure. Hope you have a label on it showing it was your first

I think it looks great

kaelynangelfoot 06-05-2013 04:02 PM

No need to worry about matching the thread to the fabric! I do a lot of times, but only because it hides my mistakes! I'm hoping to get good enough to use decorative thread.

Very nice quilt!!! A dresden plate is on my quilting bucket list and as I am a fairly new quilter I was wondering if you trim the material out from behind the dresden plate so it doesn't get to thick??? I am a hand quilter so I have concerns of being able to quilt through to many layers.

mtkoldra 06-07-2013 10:16 AM

love your quilt, love your color choices, too!
A dresden plate quilt would be too much for me, but would love to make just as yours!
thanks for sharing!
