I finally found my camera, but I'm worse at using it than I am at quilting. It took me ages to figure out that my pics looked wrong because it was in landscape mode and I needed portrait mode. These modes are not like the page setup modes in MS Word, it turns out.
Okay, I took this beginner class in late June - early July. The table runner was machine quilted. Understand that I don't have a machine, haven't sewn on one since 7th grade, wanted to be hand quilting, was not comfortable with the LQS's machine, which was a perfectly decent Bernina... As you can see, my sashing is bowlegged and I have peaks instead of right angles in the corners. We did the binding by hand. It's uneven because there's a machine seam underneath it that is uneven. Definitely beginner work. I've seen so many people post their first project here and the work is beautiful. Oh well, practice will help, right? <sigh> I see the first two pics didn't upload in the intended order. How do they get transposed? I think it's beautiful Lisanne! And the squares are perfectly square. Good job!
|
I think it looks great for beginner work. We all started somewhere girl!!! I had sewn other things before quilts.
I do like your floral fabric!!! Now you can start your next project and you will have learned to make it better. Each new item you make will be an improvement over the previous. |
we were all beginners....and guess what? Our quilts are not perfect...but we sure do enjoy making them...keep up the good work...
|
Lisanne, you did a wonderful job on that table runner! Really excellent for a beginner! Loved your colors -- did you choose them yourself?
|
Thanks for your very kind compliments and encouragement, everyone!
Gaigai, the squares are definitely the best of the piece, thanks to strip piecing and an excellent instructor who showed us how to correct for minor discrepancies in square sizes. Gayle, yes, the floral is gorgeous fabric, isn't it? My work doesn't do it justice. That came from JoAnn's - all the fabrics in the piece did. Ducky, yes, I chose the fabrics myself. LOL, can't you tell? The light squares really don't go with anything but the green, but they went so well with the green that I couldn't let them go. Definitely a beginner error. |
I think it looks great & if you are beginner, believe me, you will go far! I can't even pick the colours and you obviously have that down already!
|
Lovely, and it all goes together very nicely!
|
girlfriend, you really had me going...I was expecting to see some wonky work, and while I will not lie to ppl, was prepared to find the positives.
It's all positive! You did a good job, and not only that. You did me a favor, bc I have some of the rose fabric, and got to see what looks good with it. I like these. You really are your own worst critic  |
Yes ...I too think you did a great job on them. Don't be so hard on yourself. They are very nice.
|
Once again, you are all being very kind!
Susy, I can pick colors for simple things. As I wrote above, the white and green just glares out at me like a giant flaw. If I were to do it over, I would choose a champagne and cream print for the light squares. I'm nowhere near where I aspire to be re color picking. IMO, the workmanship needs far more work, though. Quiltincrazy, lol, if it had been horrific, I'd never have posted it. But it is pretty wonky. I'm not being hyper-critical. There are several places where it's just not right. That rose fabric is easy to match materials to. All of the colors in it can be used: cream, champagne, rose, burgundy, purple, plum, green... the main thing is to choose smaller prints. The rose print is going to dominate whatever it's in, so let it. Don't put another large print with it. My purple binding and the green squares are actually the same print in different colors, a tiny flower print that from a distance looks like suede to me. The red backing is marbled. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours! |
I like it! It would look really nice in my dining room.
|
Don't be so hard on yourself. I think it looks great.
|
Wow you call that wonky i think it's just so pretty I love the colors u choose
|
I like it. Nice job with the colors.
|
I think it turned out wonderfully!!! I can't wait to see more of your work :D :D :D
|

And thanks to the new commenters! I guess the secret of hiding flawed work is to use good fabric. Then everyone notices the fabric and no one looks too closely at the mistakes. |
You did a wonderful job!! I wished my first one came out looking this good!!
|
I think you did a wonderful job!!! Keep up the good work! :D
|
Ease up on yourself. You did great. Here's a pat on the back

I think it looks great!!!! :D

I would be proud to use this on my table.
We are way too hard on ourselves. This is a creative fun hobby that should bring pleasure. |

Thanks to the rest of you for posting such nice things.
Honestly, it would have to be a folksy table for it to look good, as I insited on using a bulkier batting because I wanted it to look like what I think of as a quilt rather than being flat. Quiltintime, I do hope you'll post pictures of yours when you're done. I gave the rest of that floral fabric to someone who'd given me a ton of the tiny flower prints I can't find in stores any longer. I do have a few scraps and plan to use one or two for bookmarks. I couldn't think how I'd use that fabric in a quily (naturally now that it's gone, I have all sorts of ideas), so I'd love to see what other people do with it. |
Lisanne,
I just love your table runner. The floral fabric is one of my favorites!! :D Quiltintime is my sister & we live very close to each other. I can't wait for you to see what she has done with her wall hanging!! Thank you for sharing with all of us. I LOVE it!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |
Thanks, SulaBug!
You two must have the best time getting together and quilting, shopping for fabric and swapping it, too. I am very much looking forward to seeing the wall hanging - and your pictures of your work, too! |
that's a very nice quilt and absolutely great for a beginner.
nobody seems to know how to keep the pics in numerical order. we all get jumbled up. so in the caption box, just put in #1, #2, etc. |

Simple and beautiful! I loved your fabrics--your border fabric pulls it all together!
|
Thanks, Harmony.
ROFL, I see that my pictures are in yet another incorrect order rather than the one I uploaded them in. I know the admin fixed something with upload ordering, but however did that affect the ones that were already uploaded? Oh well, I suppose everyone's seen these already anyway. |
