the beginning - Dresden Plate Quilt
 

This is the beginning of my Dresden Plate Quilt. This is very time consuming. I am wondering how I can get the center circles to come out nice. I am sure I will figure it out.

Very lovely! To make my circles I decided what size I needed, traced the circle on heavy card stock and carefully cut it out, then cut my fabric larger, ran a running stitch around the fabric circle, placed my cardboard circle in the center, sinched up the threads to draw the fabric smoothly around the cardboard then pressed it well, using starch. Then I was able to loosen the threads enough to remove the cardboard and re-press the circle with a nice smooth finished edge

Dresden is my favorite! I'm no a quilting expert but I love yoyo's as a center for them.

ckcowl, you always come up with the greatest clues. Very pretty dresden circle.

Oh these are so happy. Will the centers be the same or scrappy also? I do the center of my dresdens with 3 layers of freezer paper ironed together, draw the circle, iron the freezer paper circle to the wrong side of fabric, cut circle with seam allowance, clip the seam allowance every 1/4 inch or so, starch seam allowance, and press the seam allowance to the non shiny side of the freezer paper. Once it's cooled just pull out the freezer paper and you have a perfect circle ready to be stitched down. I find the folding the circle in half twice makes it easier to center on the dresden.
