benefits of asthma

I have been stuck inside for three solid days, due to my inability to breath with the current air quality in the national capital region. HOWEVER, all was not lost! Saturday and today I finished piecing a top for my niece's first child, due in late November. the pattern is A Quick Trip Around the World by Eleanor Burns, and fabric by Monaluna. I machine pieced using my fabulous Elna Supermatic, but will hand quilt with a simple crosshatch. I am using Fairfield Nature-Fil bamboo batting - I love the way it quilts.

We just finished my sewing/guest room last fall, and this is the third quilt to come out of it. I tried some new techniques with this one, thanks to the wonderful folks on this board! I basted using a tailors baste, which was easy and quick, once I got the hang on it. I also tapped the backing to the floor to put the sandwich together - tough on the knees, but overall easier then doing it on my cutting table!

Hopefully I will be able to get the pictures to load...

Your quilt is great, the asthma not so great. The air quality has been bad for me too but thankfully the cooler weather has come here. Not a lot cooler but I'll take 80's over the 90's any day.

I have been quilting away too. I also can't breathe in this weather so I am inside praying the air keeps on working or I will have to go to a hotel. I have been doing the Craftsy BOM and I just got it on Wednesday and I have done 7 months of blocks - 14. It is a terrific free program. And fun. I love your quilt and your wonderful use of time!

Beautiful, you made great use of your inside time.

Beautiful quilt! Your niece will be so happy to receive it for her baby.

Beautiful quilt! Love those colors! How fortunate you are stuck inside and are creative at the same time.
Sorry to hear you also have asthma. For me, I see absolutely no benefits to having it. Having it has given me the time to do a lot of sewing, quilting, and learning, but again, I would give it up in a heartbeat to be free of asthma. I am sure all of you that have it would too. Isn't it a bummer?

I hear you about the trouble with breathing in this heat. I'm having to stay in the house for the most part. Your quilt is very pretty and colorful. Sandy 64

I never thought of looking at having asthma that way but now that I think about it what a great excuse to be able to be in the sewing room. I cannot be in extreme heat or cold and yes sometimes it has great benefits. lol

NanaCsews2 - I too would rather not have asthma, and on Friday I was about in tears in frustration! However, to date there has not been any option (a lung transplant would bring its own set of issues, even if it WAS an option), so I just try to make the best of it. Quilting takes my mind off what I CAN'T do, and helps me focus on all the things I CAN do!

That's something my Mother used to say, "inside time"... thanks for reminding me of that! And you're right... this is a fabulous use of those icky circumstances. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons! I love this litttle quilt & know your niece will, too! Feel better!

Your quilt is wonderful. So sorry you have been suffering, however. Quilting helps maintain your sanity and passes the time in a meaningful way. I have been piecing tops like crazy, sitting in front of a fan, trying not to think about how stinkin' hot it is. Then at night when it does cool down, I throw open the windows and hand quilt.
