i only finished this because the grdson started going to preschool.

Ooooooo....I like this!!! Sometimes I'm not a huge fan of quilt with a variety of blocks in them (just personal taste - I still appreciate ALL of the work that goes into them!) but this one is great! Now I need to figure out WHY I like this so much:o Maybe the small scale prints/ solids, the balance of the color intensity...not sure. Do like the friendship stars in the sashing strips for sure!

here's some i did last christmas. ended up doing about 4 like the brown, and a couple like the mulit-colored one.

Perfect for a child

It is more pleasing than other sampler quilts because, as you mentioned, the fabrics mix quietly and also all the blocks are made from HST. The shapes are all similar enough to make them feel like they belong together. They also share a common background, white. I like sampler quilts and this one really works!

yes, the big boy quilt was made for a grdsn who will be 3 dec 24. he graduated to a twin bed. i have pretty much watched him for his working mom since he was born, but he started day care/preschool at the local school. thus, i can sew again. the ones i made for last xmas were D9P's. simply, easy, so i could churn them out in the evenings.
the BBQ was a kit from a LQS, and i added the blue with stars like in the border to increase the size.

All your quilts are beautiful. Especially the first one, the colors just pop!

and i ran across this thread, and i was wrong about the mulitcolor one. my 2 grandson's 8, and ll did 90% of the cutting, sewing and ironing of that quilt. i did set it together for them, and we had it quilted for their parents over xmas break. about 2 weeks, and we got it done, before they went home. but i did make a couple like it, only with diff colors. recognized the colorful heart material in the boys quilt. a grdsn, picked it out off the shelf in my stash, and had to put it in the quilt. nice to have stashes at times like that.

It's gorgeous...

I suspect you like it because the shapes are similar and they are not "busy". Some of us with limited brain capacity (referring to me, not you) can't handle a huge amount of designs in one quilt. Often the prize quilt at shows is one with a zillion small, absolutely beautiful design pictures... I can only look at it for a minute and I have to move on. Envy the skill, but have no wish to go there!
