Binding in a basket
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a way I came up with to feed my binding to my sewing machine. And no twisting! Only took 30 years!
Cute idea! Someone posted recently about putting theirs on the 2nd upright spool spindle on the machine, so I tried that yesterday and it worked well for a lap size quilt, not sure how a queen size would work with the extra meters of binding.
Great idea. As I attach my binding to the quilt using an iron and Elmer's Glue, I rigged up a toilet paper holder with empty toilet paper roller to my pants belt. It rolls off as I press the binding to the quilt. Then I can take it to the machine and stitch it on using no pins.
when i remember, i put mine into a grocery bag and slip one handle of the bag underneath the machine to hold it in place. Works better than using my lap!
Great ideas from everyone
I put mine into the plastic garbage "can" by my left foot that is there for large scraps! With my luck I'd have the whole darn basket land in my lap! Great idea though!
I've also put it in one of the drawers to the left of my machine. Anything to contain it! |
Lots of good ideas here to try and see which works best! Thanks to all!
Love your Longaberger baskets - I have one that looks to be similar, I will have to give it a try.
clever .
OH I wonder if you could use a hook like the ones you use to hang your purse under the table .....and hang it right at the table ....just a thought
What an awesome Idea :)
Nice idea. I never even thought of about trying to keep it contained but now I am hmm...
Yes - Yes I love doing the binding just that way!! I knew those Longenburgers would come in handy. & oh I have the same machine!
Smart idea!
I saw the binding placed in a thread catcher that has pincushion weight so the bag hangs down from the sewing table or cabinet. I tried it and loved how the binding was unrolling from the thread catcher bag. |
Great idea!!!
Mine is always on a pile on the floor. This is a great idea. Thanks!
neat idea!!!
Great idea and thanks for sharing.
I use a tissue box and let it feed out the slit.
Amazing how necessity can be the "mother of invention". Very clever for all of the ideas !
Thanks for all the great ideas! I use the empty toilet paper roll for mine.
A friend of mine uses a spool slipped onto small piece of pvc pipe and had a way to put it around her neck. Binding is wound around the spool and feeds off a little at a time.
great idea!!
great idea! now get that quilt done....I always look forward to seeing your work!!
My cat would pull the binding strip out of the basket before I was down one side of the quilt. Then he'd be up in the basket talking to me from his new perch, all proud of himself and his accomplishments.
But I'm glad it works for you! |
I roll up the binding after it is ironed in half and put it in a plastic zip lock bag. I sew it on, and unroll from the bag as I go. Doesn't roll around or get dirty.
What a great and cute idea.
If you have a metal stand for your bath tissue, roll the binding on the paper tube and use the stand. (It can be spared from the bathroom long enough to get the quilt binding sewed on--set priorities!)
Great idea!!!
I use an empty spool of thread, wrap my binding on that and put a piece of whatever through it then hang it around my neck. Works great and never in my way!
Great idea.....but i am sure if i tried that i'd pull the shelf down on my head !! ;)

Cute! I roll my folded binding on an empty paper towel roll and drop in a hinged shoe box with a hole cut in the top like a tissue box. I put the box on the floor between my feet and it unrolls as I sew, with no twisting. I also don't get it tangled in my chair rollers or end up stepping on it. Whatever works!

Great idea...
Clever idea. Your sewing rm is soooooooooo much cleaner than mine. Shame shame.
