Binding decision
1 Attachment(s)
I am making this table runner for my DIL but I can't decide on what border fabric to use. I can use the strip fabric for the backing and binding or the beige fabric with the beige binding. Since the edge of the panel is dark, I don't think the beige would look good as binding? The other brown is a shade to warm for the cool Browns in the panel. I pinned the strip around the panel edge as if binding, what do you think? Should I keep looking?

I think the stripe is perfect.

I like it just like that! The dark looks more finished than beige would IMHO.
|
I love the stripe! From what I can see, it's really a beautiful runner.
|
Definitely the stripe! It really sets the runner off.

Tartan,
Can we see the other brown fabric against the edge? I'm not feeling the strips for the binding. It seems to compete with the other designs. I like a quiet binding on most projects. Good luck on the decision. We put so much thought into every detail. |
I also like the stripe.

I like what you have here. The twisted cord adds a touch of elegance to your pretty table topper.

I like the stripe. I've always been a fan of bias stripe binding. I love the look.
|
I think the bias cut stripe is very striking and a great finish.
|
My vote is for the stripe fabric. It seems to finish off your pretty table runner.

i like the stripe

I vote for the bias stripe also!!! Beautiful!!!

It looks like the concensus is stripe. It adds an elegant finish to a beautiful runner. But what do you think she would like is the big question.
|
I, too, like the strip. I think it's a great mix of colors. Other than that, my norm is to pull the least-used color in a quilt and use that for the binding to make that recessive color 'pop' a bit more.
|
The stripes really set it off.
|
I'm a fan of stripes. I like the cording effect but it adds another dimension to your beautiful piecing and seems almost too busy on this particular piece. I don't think I'd care for the beige but what does the blue look like? I think I'd stick with one of the fabrics already in the runner this time.
|
I vote for the stripe also....it simply sets the table runner off perfectly.

If I only look at the first picture, I really like the striped fabric and it seems to be perfect for the binding. However, looking at the second picture I understand what you are saying about the binding having warmer tones than the table runner itself. I also agree that beige may not give the effect you want. If it is an option, have you auditioned a darker blue? As I look at the first picture, I notice the blue first so wonder if that would work. If beige or the stripe are the choices you need to stick with, then definitely the stripe. Whatever option you choose it will be beautiful!

The stripe is a great finish to this very nice table runner, in my opinion!
|
I think you should stop looking. The stripe will be perfect for your runner in my opinion. Beautiful table runner.
|
I think the cording you have in the photo looks good with the table runner as it is.
|
I do not like the stripe because it seems to have a completely different "feel" from most of the mottled prints used in the runner.
|
Add me to the list of "I like the bias striped binding."
|
I like the stripe. I think it's the perfect accent to the colors in the panel. It doesn't overwhelm the quilt, but adds a nice spark.

The stripe looks nice for the table runner.

Love the stripe!

I'd try a few shades of solid blue - any of the blues that are in the runner.
