A Birthday bag. 24 buttons!

This bag was great fun to make. I have never bound an outside seam before, other than on a quilt. Turns out much the same in technique, but the corners were a bit more of a challenge.
Anyway it's been given today and it was received with overwhelming delight. She was very pleased and surprised. The pattern is taken from an Australian Magazine that I had marked the page in specifically for this pattern. I had to sew 24 buttons on. That hurt a bit, being rather careful with materials at the moment. It had to be done though because it would have spoiled the overall effect had I not done it. Hope you like it. Oh and for those of you who kindly gave their advice and preferences for my DWR colours, much appreciated thank you. I have gone with the "soft look" and will not be adding in any darker colours. I will keep you posted as to me progress. |

Cute, cute, cute! The buttons just make it pop. I've done a binding on one set of outside seams. Not easy, but it does help a bag keep its shape and stand up. My favorite commercial-made tote bag has outside seams, and stands up and stays open without being too heavy. Good job!!

That is adorable! Speaking of buttons, I'm going to tell you this just for a chuckle...I've been making quilts for 10+ years and have done very little garment/other sewing. Yesterday I remade a large velvet pillow cover and had to replace the buttons, 5 of them, on the back. I learned that my sewing machine can sew on buttons! I whipped out the manual and it was very easy to follow the instructions. I had the 5 4-hole buttons on in about 10 minutes. Who knew! LOL. I bet most sewing machines that can do buttonholes can do buttons. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! hahaha
