Black & White Quilts

I really enjoyed the Wavelength picture by Cattitude. Good going!

Here are pictures of my two B&W tops both made last year. Please feel free to join in and post your on finished/on-going B&W projects.

First I call "Not Everything is Black & White". It is based on a project called Four Patch Fusion from the book New Cuts for New Quilts by Karla Alexander. There are ruler sets now, but Karla wrote the book I use for quick crazy quilt blocks, Stack the Deck.

I collected the B&W fabric for some time and decided I wanted to use only very pure tones, limited grey and no other colors. I just loved the border fabric and finally figured out a way to use it, the solids came from my stash and come from the colors in the border. My alternating white/black sashing corner stones didn't really come out as I had hoped, if I did it over I'd make them all solid black like I did in the outer row next to the border.

I always like using striped bias cut fabric for bindings, and just love the happy vitality it gives. Not sure if I am going to use this piece for the back or not but it's big enough and they are put together for now.

So, I had a lot of fabric left from that project as well as a lot of strips and unused 4-patches. I thought, well hey I could make a jelly roll race style and that would be a good use of those 4-patches.

Well, maybe for someone else but for me they added a really unnecessary level of complexity to what should have been a simple project because I wanted to make sure the black/whites ended "correctly".

In this project I opened up a lot more colors and greys from what I did in the first one. Main goal was using up yardage.

The picture is taken upside down... when the quilt is right side up it was consistently pieced as Black and White and Red all over, so here is the Newspaper Quilt.

Not strictly b&w only, I love putting in a pop of color. This was a donation quilt with donation fabrics, so not as crisply b&w as I would have chosen

Great B & W quilts!

I love all of the quilts and I really like how everyone put a little color in their B and W quilts to make a little "pop". I made my grandson a B&W quilt with some red added. Turned out very nice.

All of the black and white quilts are beautiful. I made one, no picture and put red in it to add color.
