This technique is so much fun--so liberating. :D I can do whatever I want...and figure out how to get it all together later. The fabrics Marcia sent are making it an even more joyful adventure.:D

I've made many since the last laying-out-of-the-blocks, so that may be a good idea to tackle on the weekend. Maybe there are enough! Nah.

RedGarnet222 03-24-2009 05:25 PM

Hey this is going to be fun to watch and see how you put them all together. I like the creative way of making quilts. It is liberating.

Marcia 03-24-2009 05:31 PM

Karla, we can feel your happy vibes just oozing out of the picture, I share your delight at the liberation of just doing what you feel like, that's what I am doing with my scrappy too :D :D :D

Quilt4u 03-25-2009 01:23 AM

That is coming along. Keep up the great job. By the way I love it.

reneebobby 03-25-2009 02:29 AM

Oh that looks like it's going to be very pretty.

barnbum 03-25-2009 02:34 AM

Thanks, everyone.
sewjoyce--I vary everything. Some 4 patches are from 1.5" strips, some are from 2" ones.

Janstar--I call it Black and White Splash... and there's no pattern--as Yvonne (on the board) explained to me--it's more a technique. It's from the book called "Magical Four-Patch and Nine-Patch Quilts" by Yvonne Porcella.

I've added lots more than patches... I've made some log cabins and other stuff... it's going to be..ummm..interesting.

If you do a search for "Black and White" you'll find the post where I asked to see quilts made with these fabrics--and you'll see Yvonne's there. I think it's on page 2.

pocoellie 03-25-2009 03:07 AM

Yvonne 03-25-2009 09:28 AM

Looking good! I'm want to make another one, I think. You're having too much fun and I want to play too!! Well, some day!

barnbum 03-25-2009 03:11 PM

Oh, Yvonne--it's a good thing I have that book for a bit because I read it again and can now asnwer Kennedy's question: "How are you going to sew it together?" Now I remember--I need to sew everything into bigger blocks--rectangles and strips, etc. Whew. Glad I double checked! Two of those new funky squares are from the book.

Let me know if you need the book back! If I copied one page--I'd probably do okay getting it together.

Yvonne 03-25-2009 04:42 PM

Yes, Karla. You need to sew the little blocks into a bigger blocks and then add some more coping strips and then sew things into bigger blocks. Yep! You've got the idea.

No hurry on the book, Karla. I've got to make my daughters magnolia quilt yet. I just can't decide on a pattern for it. Meanwhile I'll enjoy watching your quilt grow.

JoanneS 03-26-2009 07:11 PM

This looks like fun. I've been buying black and white FQs and fabrics for several years and haven't made THE quilt yet. I'm intrigued with what you're doing. Hurry up so we can see the result!

Well-JoanneS--I just happen to sew a few pieces together last night. It's kind of baffling to know where to begin, but I felt a need to get something together. I can see I'll want lots of strips. :D

Debbie1 03-27-2009 09:11 AM

It's looking very interesting.. Can't wait to see more of it!

omak 03-27-2009 10:44 AM

JoanneS 03-27-2009 11:22 PM

It gets more interesting with each new picture!

sandpat 03-28-2009 05:26 AM

Its looking great Karla....I'm interested to see it coming together with the strips and such...I'm working on something that I'll be putting together in a similar way and I don't have a book!! So...is Kennedy going to help lay it out some more this weekend?

Jeannie 03-28-2009 06:05 AM

Have you finished this beautiful quilt? I have not seen it posted and I want to see it! I have the black and white fabric ready to go.

barnbum 03-28-2009 12:01 PM

Kennedy and I usually only get Thursdays together--for about 1.5 hours--and we have to split that between horses and quilting... and only quilting if the weather is yucky.

I don't get a lot of quilting time these days--and I'm splitting it between so many projects--so it's slow going. I need at least an hour to get much done with this one... and I need to make the binding for Mark's CW quilt and I need to sew the next strips on the watercolor log cabin.... sigh....I just got back from visiting my girl :D :D :D :D and I need to go groom horses now...quilting tomorrow...

sandpat 03-28-2009 12:50 PM

I know the feeling girl....have fun!
