The Blacksmith
2 Attachment(s)
This is the finished comfort quilt for my friend who is a volunteer blacksmith in a historic village during the season. He will start treatment for lymphoma very soon.
The center panel represents a chart I found on Google images that shows the color of the heated metal for performing different tasks on it. The wording to the sides show what is done at those heat levels. I chose the aqua blue to represent the water for cooling the metal and the bubbles from the hot metal entering the water. |
Oh it is so nice of you to make this for your friend. i know he will love it!

What an inventive quilt, I'm sure he'll love it and be so touched by your thoughtfulness.

oh my - OH MY!!! My son is a blacksmith and I used to have to haul him to all the blacksmith meetings. Yes they do have that chart for forge welding and other heats. I don't think there is a blacksmith alive that wouldn't want that quilt. I'm hoping the edges are centered to fit on the bed with out hanging over so he can read the words. Maybe it is a wall hanging? It is perfect for a blacksmith in any case. One night we were staying at a black smith conference and the evening sky looked about like that. I thought the sky look would make a cool quilt, too. I love it when the arts meet.

Holy Cow ... this is very creative and personal! I'm sure your friend will appreciate the extra effort you put in. May it provide a little extra energy to fuel his battle with lymphoma!

Lovely and thoughtful quilt to make for this man. Blessings on you for thinking of such a beautiful representative design.

Very interesting. I had no idea about temperature and heat, though it makes sense. He'll appreciate your research and the work you put into it!

Very nice quilt and thoughtful gift. Thanks for the explanation of the colors.

Great Quilt and I'll pray for your friend and hope he enjoys the quilt

Wildyard, I don't know whether to say that's a cool quilt or a hot one? LOL Either way, it says as much about you as it does about his interest. Such careful thought to details, research, meaning, and placement. Love the binding as well. Do you have a picture of the back?
