What an amazing quilt! I must say that my favorite bird is the Great Blue Heron... sort of the second obsession right after fabric.

They are pretty amazing birds. In my teens, my family lived in Florida on a canal. My dad would fish off the seawall there. Mostly what he caught were "junk" fish. Too bony for eating or those catfish with the big venomous spikes on their fins. Well a Great blue heron decided to hang out on our seawall when my dad fished. I think other fisherman fed him because he hung out eyeing my dad like he was waiting for a handout. My dad caught one of those bony fish and instead of throwing it back tossed it to the heron. The heron immediately walked over to that flopping fish, impaled it on his beak to kill it that swallowed it down. That heron hung out with us until we moved. I bet he stayed when the next owners came hoping they had a fisherman too!

Then when I was looking for inspiration for quilting this, I found a blog posting from a gal who did AMAZING thread painting and did a whole series of GBH. She showed one to her friend who was less than enthusiastic about the subject matter. Turned out her friend had a koi pond and some GBH discovered it and came back every day to the Koi buffet until he had decimated her pond.

Your quilting was jaw dropping beautiful. I am just awed at your artistic ability, when I can't even draw a stick figure. You really made it come alive. The sky caught my eye first. What vision you have! I only wish I had a drop of your talent. If I was your client, it would have brought me to tears of joy.

Yesterday afternoon I had the awesome experience of watching a GBH from my sewing room. She had been quite successful in catching fish and then came up about two feet out of the water to rest with her back to the wind. She stayed for over an hour and a half. This summer when we were moving in to our home, DH and I witnessed a huge GBH having bullfrog for dinner. After that day, we noticed bullfrog sounds throughout the day and evening... but no more. If you post the blog link, I would appreciate it.

Speechless! This is so beautiful and the quilting brought it to life. When I grow up, I want to quilt like that!
