I just finished the layout for my blue and white block exchange top. (Yes, I'm just now getting around to it!).
This is the layoutt... any suggestions on change...before it's set in stone? |
I think it looks very good the way you have it layed out now.
|
I love it! It looks great! I would never have thought of adding green, but it totally works. :-)
|
Nice! I actually already started putting it together. This is my first "on point" quilt that I've done, so it's taking some brain power for me to keep everything straight!
I wanted to add yellow, but I didn't have any!!! (I need to go to JoAnn's desperately!) so I had to rummage for something else...and fortunately the green works! |
I like that layout very pretty and the green really does go nicely with the blue and white :)
|
The green with the blue and white is very fresh looking.
|
I think it looks great and yea to the green! I haven't done anything with mine yet either.
|
The green is a perfect addition
to your blue & white blocks!! :D I love it a lot. Please share your finished picture's with us, when you are all done. Thank you!! :D :D :D :D :D :D |
Looks great. You are not alone as a late starter. i have only just started mine, will be able to lay it out soon toget an idea as well.
I likethe idea of th green as well. Elle |
Very nice.
|
i like the layout as it is
|
I like your little kitty avatar <g>
and, I think that the green with the blue is very pretty! |
So now I have a dillemma...all of the sashing that I've cut seems to not be quite long enough! It was long enough in my measurements, but for some reason, it's not turning out long enough. I don't have any of that fabric left to add peices on when it comes up short...so I'm not quite sure what to do.
I could add the darker fabric in when a shashing comes up short, and have it look really strange... That's really the only option I have...ideas???? |

Beautiful. I love the green. It sets it off so well.
|
Very Pretty!!! I like it :D :D :D
|
how much short are you?
something I learned - if I put the side with the fewest seams on top when I'm sewing - I can "ease in" the bottom layer fairly easily I've found that sometimes blocks "stretch" when I'm sewing them - Also, are all the blocks pretty much the same size? You might want to verify that before you continue |
The blocks are all exactly the same size...and I guess I'm still confused on what you are trying to explain to me...I'm dumb...
|
If you cut the sashing the same length as your blocks:
Put the sashing on top of the block when you are sewing it to the block. Ease the block to fit the sashing. A little bit of fullness can be pressed out. (if it's only a little bit) Machines without a walking foot tend to feet the bottom layer a bit faster than the top layer/ You aren't dumb - it's hard to put into words what is relatively easy to show by example. |
Ah, so make the block fit the sashing, not the other way around? That makes a little more sense...
The problem with that is that I will have puckering happening...the other option I'm considering is trimming the blocks down to meet the sashing lenghts...that would cut off the poits of the stars, but it's better than puckering...or un-lined up sashing... Again, I'm dumb..lol thanks for all the help |
will it be a LOT or a tiny bit of puckering?
Maybe do just one or two and see what happens after pressing? |
I honestly don't know how bad it will be. Maybe I'll take the suggestion of doing a few and seeing how it turns out...

Then I guess I'll have to try it and see how it goes...
