It was very easy. I am going to try some more soon... It took me about 2 hours start to finish, but it was my first time. I may do a few things differently with the next one. The method is super simple though.

Turned out very cute! Love the strawberry fabric! Did you use my method? Since you added the book to the picture just wondered. Rhonda

mamabird3 06-06-2009 09:50 AM

I did use your method... of course I messed up and didn't press my seams open... so it was a bit bulky.. but lesson learned. I just added a book to the picture to show the size. I loved doing it. I will play more with them this weekend. That was just a quicky test.

amma 06-06-2009 09:52 AM

Very pretty :D I can't wait to see more :D :D :D

Rhonda 06-06-2009 09:56 AM

I am so glad you liked them! They are my favorite thing to do. You get interesting looks and it doesn't take a long time to finish them! Ilove how yours turned out! Cute fabric!

I should have sent the SASE to you for the template.. I had template making plastic but it was very thin and I kept cutting into it with the rotary cutter. So I cut out 4 squares of it, superglued them together and cut them to size... wala! Worked like a charm.

Interesting idea! I have never made a flag and that is really a cute way to make a bookmark! I like your colors!

I was trying to figure out how to make it more of a star then a pinwheel. But haven't figured it out yet... I love the first one I did, but for something so small I like having the crips lines of these colors, it shows off the pattern more.

Mamabird3 here are a couple of keychains I made using my favorite stars. They would work for the top of your bookmark. But I used a smaller template. You can cut the 1 1/2" with the template and then just trim a 1/4" off two sides to get a 1 1/4" block without a smaller template. If you can use the 1 1/2" you can use the 1 1/4". There really isn't that much differance in size as far as holding it and handling it goes.
You can see my points don't always meet either! I am fanatical about the points but sometimes things just don't do what you want them to!!!

I used 1 1/4" blocks here and it finished at 3" a little wider than I like my bookmarks but it does work.

Here is another one. I used 1" template here. It isn't as hard as it sounds. It just takes a bit of getting used to but it is quite easy to do. It finishes at 2 1/2"

These are great! Like someone said, brilliant for craft sales but also as gifts too..; must get to my little template, oh what to do first? These or mini kaleidoscopes? I'm a gemini, wish I could split myself in two! LOL

Ninnie 06-09-2009 01:13 AM

very cute!!

key4unc 06-09-2009 02:39 AM

Great job. Did you make it specifically to use with that book--the colors go so well with that book.

No I just grabbed the book to show the size of the book mark.

Thank you for the great compliments. They are really fun to make and I am looking forward to experimenting more. I Think if I made another red white and blue one, and put the three together it would look really sharp as a potholder or something of that sort.
