I remember them from last year! I was hoping you were making them again. I'd love one for myself, they are just super fantastic and a great remembrance of a teach that really cared for them. great job!

I have been thinking about trying to make a few bookmarks for my friends who love to read. Yours are great for the students.

They are easy!! Start with a 9" piece of muslin--or any fabric you don't want. Lay a strip down the center, diagonally. Lay another on top of it--right sides together. Stitch along one side. Flip open and iron. Keep adding strips until the block is covered, Turn over. Trim. Cut into three 3" strips. Cut a back same size--place with top right sides together. Sew around--leave an opening to turn. Turn. Steam-a-seam shut. Add a grommet and tassels and beads. Ta-da! Done. :-) It's a bit more complicated when one is trying to make each bookmark specifically for a classroom of individual students to their likes. But, that's my problem. lol Three I made weren't on the diagonal because of the fabric--it would not have worked.

Oh goodness...now it makes me wish I still taught a grade with kids who can read. Those are so cool...Pre-k kids just wouldn't appreciate them. I'm going to save this though.. Thanks for the directions.

I think that happened! It is miraculous to watch first graders grow in their reading. So much fun to watch.

Great idea for a gift to put in cards.

bearisgray 06-15-2016 09:32 AM

You will have to do this for as long as you are a teacher at this school!

Otherwise, the kids that don't get them will feel left out.

Nice!

Nice!

You know--I've never had a kid hear about it from a former student. It's always a surprise. Amazing. And I switched from 5th to 1st so it's all new again. :-) Only four years left to goooooo!!!
