Hi, I'm currently stuck on what to do with the borders...although this pattern does not call for a border, I need to make the quilt bigger, so thought I would add :
1rst border blue 2" 2nd border either pinwheel or half square triangle 3.5" 3rd border plain black 5" blue binding... Which one do you prefer or do you have another idea for the second border...with all 3 borders, it will measure 72.5 x 80.75" which will be ok for a 2 person couch quilt. Any suggestions more than welcome and greatly appreciated. Incase anyone is wondering where the pattern came from, it is from McCall's May 2010 magazine called Paradigm Shift. Let me tell you can anyone say bias bias bias...wow nothing like using almost a bottle of starch....in the magazine they say the blocks are 8 5/8", but when it came time to trim my blocks before sewing them into the quilt top, I was able to trim them to 8 3/4".... Thanks again for all your inputs.... first choice second choice |
I like the first choice with the pinwheels :)
I really like the pinwheels!
I think that I like the first choice, but the second one would be OK, too.
Oh man, what a hard decision. Both borders look great! Which one? Maybe the second choice but then again the pinwheels are nice too. I'm no help!!!
I like the first choice. The second one seems to "pull" one direction and the border detracts from rather than frames the center. The first choice frames and doesn't pull your eyes away from the main part of the quilt. JMHO!
I think I like the pinwheels also...My fiance' wanted me to use a patterned black for the outside border but the center of the quilt is already busy enough and I think just a plain black works sooo much better.....
I have to agree Sylviak....the half square triangles do pull away from the quilt...never noticed that until I was looking at it online....
I would do choice #1. Love that one.
I really like the first choice with pinwheels. Great quilt!!!
Yeah, I like the first one better also. Just looks more balanced to me.
I like the pinwheels too. The second one makes me dizzy for some reason?

Thanks everyone, I have to agree, pinwheels it is...I already had the 2" half square triangles made from a previous quilt I was working on...kinda like a leader/ender project...so it won't take long to sew them into pinwheels...hopefully I can't get the borders on then will post a pic....then onto my longarm and decide how to quilt it....oh hum decisions decisions....lol.....
My thought was to continue the pattern after the black border but i can be boring like that :)
First one.
Like the first choice
I like the pinwheels best, but the I love pinwheels. :-)

I like the first choice. The second choice draws your eye away from your beautiful quilt.

I like the pinwheels too. Somehow less busy that the triangles (I guess?)
I like them both but I like the 1st one best.
I vote for #1~ love the pinwheels!
Nothing to think about. The first one absolutely pops! In reading back over the others, I think you have a consensus.
