Border on!
1 Attachment(s)
I had been putting off getting my final borders on because I had to miter my corners. I made the mistake of putting the side borders on first and of course the top stretched even with lots of pins. Picked them off and added even more pins with easing in the extra fabric as I sewed. The top and bottom went better as there were fewer seams. The border is on, mitered corners look good and it is ready for quilting. It finished at 105X105 and I still have tons of scraps.

Terrific job, great quilt!

Wow, what a striking quilt...great job!
|
Amazing quilt!!!
|
good job

That is quite the quilt. I'd get dizzy sewing this one. I have never attempted mitered corner binding but will keep in mind to start with the top first. I know there is a trick but that's it. Looks great and so nice when a plan comes together.

Wow, such movement, love it. Great job and creative way to use scraps.
|
Wow! It's beautiful, but I would have gone mad trying to make it! I admire your patience and wish I had your eyesight!
|
So amazing!!
|
Very nice! I've never seen this pattern before!
|
Amazing quilt, and so huge! Well done.

What a wonderfully unique quilt. Scrappies are my favorites, yet I don't recall ever seeing one like it. Awesome work!
FYI, for future reference, I learned to stop dreading mitered corners when I started glue basting them. Here's what I mean (you have to scroll down about a bit to get to the tute.) http://chrisquilts.net/blog/?p=9413 |
Congrats on getting the border on your fun scrappy!
|
Wow, I love scrappy quilts!
|
A very interesting pattern for scraps. Very nice finish. Yes, the mitered corners do add a nice finish that is visually compatible with your quilt.
|
Well the final result is fantastic!
|
great quilt!
|
What a fabulous quilt...look at all those pieces. Great job Tartan.
|
Beautiful quilt, but why did you need to make mitered border? Just curious
|
That is a prodigiously large quilt. It is a beauty.

That is a beautiful quilt. Is it from a pattern or your own design?

Tartan, that's amazing! Sorry you had some trouble at the end but it looks great!
That is a beautiful quilt. Is it from a pattern or your own design?[/QUOT. This is a replica of a quilt that was posted on QB. I wish I could give credit but when I got a new IPad, I lost some of my saved posts. She displayed hers hanging from her balcony and kindly shared the dimensions of the pieces. I looked through 30 pages of the thread of Scrappy Quilt Show Right Here but didn’t see it. If anyone recognize who did the original, please post the name.

Awesome scrappy quilt.

Beautiful Quilt. I saw the original thread a long time ago and saved a picture of the quilt, but unfortunately did not link to the thread. I had forgotten about this pattern, but after seeing yours think I need to make one sometime soon. I certainly will not be making one as large as yours.

It makes me think of how the sand patterns at the shore of the ocean. Pretty

Gorgeous quilt and love the movement the fabrics make

It is a very pretty quilt. I think it would make a nice Quilt of Valor quilt. Can you share the sizes that you used? Thanks!!

My pieces were 2X5 because I wanted to use up lots of light and dark scraps. You can make it any size you like to get a square block. Mine sewn together ended up 8X8. The quilt has 12X12 rows of 8 inch blocks.

Very striking quilt!

. I didn’t have to miter the corners but since all the angled pieces were sewn at 45*, I thought miters would look best. I found a good YouTube video that made it easier. The instructor said to pin the extra length matching the raw side edges of the extensions, iron in the 45* fold, open it back up ( leaving the pins in) and draw a sewing line in on the fold to sew on. It worked well and was easy.

Tartan, thanks for the instructions!! I still can't visualize how it's going to work, but I think if I sew up a few squares, I'll figure it out!! What is that 45* tool called that you have in your picture?

This handy little ruler made by Omnigrid, was gifted to me by a quilter friend about 10 years ago before she died. I don't know if it is still available but I think of her every time I use it.

The blocks are all made the same but you rotate them every other one. Here is the first one with the second block rotated and you can start to see the pattern.

Thanks!! Now I see it!! Can't wait to start it.
