After sitting on the pattern for over a year I got busy and made a bag for DDIL's birthday at the end of the month. For some reason I was dreading it but it went pretty well I think.
The pics are yesterday before I went for some plastic canvas today for the bottom. And the magnetic closure isn't in. My question is re: the plastic canvas for the bottom. Any reason NOT to put it between the lining and the outside? I haven't stitched up the hole in the lining yet so it seems easier than making a cover for it and having it float in the bottom :-) If I put it between do ya think I need to tack it? What do you think? |
Pretty. I considered that but then realized it would be hard to wash if got dirty. Also the bottoms of my purse always get dirty so I made a sleeve like a pillow case so I could take out the plastic and wash the sleeve if something like lipstick, etc. got on it.

i have done some of mine that way, just not sure how it will act when it's washed but it looks nice and neat for now

The bow tuck that I was given has the bottom piece with the sleeve mentioned above. Really like that idea..
Sure, that will work!
I guess it depends on whether you think it will ever need washing or not :D:D:D
Isn't that the reason to use the plastic canvas over, like, mat board or foam core? Is there some reason not to wash the plastic???
I have done that and it seems to work okay. Have not washed it yet. But yes, it needs to be tacked as otherwise it will end up moving up the side of the purse and will be hard to get back to the bottom.
I do mine this way and they hold up very well in the washer and dryer. I do anchor the plastic canvas with a couple of stitches so that it doesn't move around. I haven't noticed the bottom of my purse showing any dirt.

Great job ! Also my favorite colors!! I made a covers for the bottoms of the bow tucks I have made but I use heavy foam poster board from WM for bottoms, they are very inexpensive and you can get several out of one board.
I use the sleeve also.
It is a gorgeous bag. I don't have one yet, but it is on my list
They are really easy to wash. Just take the bottom out and throw it in the washer. They reshape and hang it up to dry. I wash mine all the time.
It is so pretty and I love the colors..
My SIL did this and it wore a hole in the corner of the purse. She did use the purse everyday. She now makes the cover and hasn't had any problem.
Very nice bow tuck.
OK, I mostly thought about it moving around if washed but hadn't even considered the possibility of wearing a hole in the bag! Guess I'll make a cover this morning :-)
love the colors very nice

Love your bag. I have made many of these and have always made a little sleeve for whatever I use in the bottom.
But I had a question - do you plan on putting a magnetic closure in ? If so, you should have done it while you were making the bag otherwise the back of the magnet will show on your purse. Just wondering!! |

I used Pellon-Peltex 72--Double-sided fusible ultra firm stabilizer--2 layers--in my Bow Tucks purse, and I also put it between the layers and tacked it. This product is machine washable and dry cleanable. I haven't washed my purse yet--but I will soon since it is too summery looking for the coming fall season.
