I used the QB tutorial here https://www.quiltingboard.com/tutori...t295413-2.html
It took a lot longer than I usually spend on a donation quilt. It was a great challenge, but I don't think I'll do another one. |
Amazing out dimensional it looks. Great quilt.
Very cool! Might be tough to give that one away :-)
Well done! I am at 41 blocks on mine and I think I will need about that many again for a full size quilt.
I know it may have taken longer, but it is gorgeous.

Looks great!

Nicely done. I'm not having as much time as I would like to work on mine--with spring gardening and all. I'm using dryer sheets as the foundation and it's working well. I may keep this one for myself!! Would make a nice wall hanging.

I am counting 2 triangle units to make one 8-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch block

Another gorgeous scrappy.
For some reason I thought "the White Cliffs of Dover" when I saw it first. Not that I have seen the White Cliffs of Dover in reality only in pictures. |
Great way to use scraps o

Looks great QuiltiNan! Still working on mine between other Sew alongs I have deadline dates for.

Great finish, Nancy. I know what you mean about the time and not doing another!
I saw the original quilt when it was posted and thought "I like that". Then the tutorial came up, but I didn't read it right away. When I did, it was 3 pages along. And it was a good thing too because I didn't care for the way it was constructed. After reading everyone's take on making the block I took the ones that worked best for me and started. :mad:This is not a quick block:mad:. I used Tartan's method of combining two triangles and squaring to 8 1/2 and for me it's the best way. BUT, it's taking forev...............er! I don't like too many projects going at once.(can we say clutter) so this has to get done. I am at 40 blocks (2 triangles per block) and I decided to do 50 and enough to finish the edges and maybe a black inner border and a piano key border. Maybe. Scrappies should be more fun than this is turning out to be. |
awesome quilt, great job

Love it. BrendaK

Love it. Great quilt!

I'm glad to see how yours came out, I've started mine but alas, the scrap pile is high, time is limited and church Spring Fling (quilt/yard/plant sale) quickly approaches. Still have two 1/2 quilts to quilt for that.
It looks really good. Very different looking so that is good but if it is not fun to make that is not good.
Very nice job on that!
Very nice, great quilt

I'm finding the block fun to work on. With strips, I find myself getting obsessed to keep going. But other Spring Things are keeping me from sewing at all lately.
Wow! that has great dimension.. looks really hard to make , you did a great job..
Great quilt, but I can see it would take a lot of time!
That’s gorgeous!
Turned out great! I am ( much slower) working on mine. I make a couple blocks each time I start to sew then move to something I need to be working on. It’s nice to be putting these strings to use. I love how tall your blocks look.
It looks beautiful, Nancy!
thanks for all of your kind comments
You did a fabulous job Nan...at least now you can check it off your bucket list.
Fantastic quilt! Great job.
Nice string quilt.
Your quilt looks fantastic! I finished sewing the ending on mine tonight. Will take a pic tomorrow & post it. I emailed a pic of it to my niece & she loves it so I'm going to make one for her. You are right, it is very time consuming. My scrap bins don't seem to have any less scraps than when I started. LOL.

Like Tartan, I count a block as 2 triangles sewn into approximately an 8 X 8” square. My final quilt size will be determined by the number of triangles I was able to cut from my navy fabric. It was left from a baby quilt I made about 4 years ago. I cut 110 full triangles & with some careful piecing I managed to get 2 more for 112. From these I’ll get 56 blocks, so my quilt will be 7 blocks X 8. I haven’t been quilting much in the last few years, having spent crafting time knitting & crocheting, so I didn’t have too many strings to start this project. Instead, I raided my container of strips left-over from other sewing projects. So my triangles have some wider strips than those of you with many strings collected. I have 3 more blocks to make, & my problem now is I’m almost out of pieces long enough to make a full strip. My scrap container looks even fuller than when I started, but most are now short pieces. I have 6 triangles left to find strips to fit, then I can start laying out the blocks & rearranging them into a pleasing pattern of colors.

Looks good!
