I have made a bunch of these and I don't use paper. It takes too long to take it off. I had some really cheapo fabric that was way too thin to use for anything I wanted so used it in place of paper( or muslin) and just sewed my strings on, starting corner to corner. Goes quickly and the fabric backing is so thin that it won't make a difference when I put it together. Just trying to save you some time. :-)

Beautiful quilt....... I just love it and now want to make one ...could you use fabric to sew the strips to instead of paper ...lke a old bed sheet cut into squares and then sew the strips to it? then you won't have to take the paper off... I don't know if this would work but I don't see why it would not..

I love scrappy quilts and Bonnie Hunter is definitely the Queen of Scrappy. Great use of your scraps. Very colorful. Can't wait to see your finished quilt. Thanks for sharing.

This is how I make them, as well.
