I bought this block of the month a long time ago to practice my stitching on but didn't like how it looked. Didn't like one of the inner petal fabrics (won't use it either). Today I finished stitching up to that point and it was bothering me that my "points" weren't as sharp as they should be (some way off). Buttons to the Rescue. I just got back from Walmart and found a button that I can use in the middle (grins).

First Bonni - stop selling yourself short (yeah, I know). Second it was great the way it was BUT it is fabulous with the button. What a great idea to finish it off that way!

Thanks Everybody. As for Connie - grins -

I know. I know. That's why I like getting during lunch hours sometimes - to bounce ideas off of each other.

Brilliant idea! I will keep it in mind!

Buttons are great to cover up those pesky misses. Yo-yos work also.

Looks great!!

The button looks great but you might want to wait until AFTER you quilt it. Buttons and other large embellishments can be a nightmare if they're put on before quilting.

Also I like to say this: Don't insist that it be perfect. If you look closely at published quilts by professional quilt makers their points don't always match up either. A tiny mistake in a block looks HUGE, put that block in a quilt and it will make the tiny mistake next to invisible. Put the quilt on a bed, couch or on the wall and MAGIC happens!!! The tiny little mistake dissappears!

good point. Of course since it is only one button, I can take it out and put it back on after I quilt it. :) I'm getting quite good at undoing things.

Yeah!

sewnsewer2 06-28-2010 08:58 PM

 I have used that trick with fabric before. Good thinking!

Excellent idea!

Farmer Girl 06-29-2010 01:37 AM

Like that, it adds a new dimension!

I`m glad I`m not the only one this has happened to...I ended up sewing small appliques in the middle to hide my mismatched points...

Beautiful Block!!! Love the button embellishment :D:D:D

BonniFeltz 07-01-2010 06:19 AM

Thanks everyone. I took this to my mom yesterday at lunch to show her. She's in a nursing home and will be 91 this December. She wanted it on her wall right then. No batting, no backing, no finishing it. Right THEN! So I promised her that when it was finished she could have it. Guess this means I have to finish it somewhat soon now. :)

Great save, way to use your ingenuity to correct the situation.

Here is the final piece (minus the label).

kayquilt 07-06-2010 06:14 AM

This is really pretty. I know your Mom will love it. I also like your use of the pretty stitch as a quilting stitch. I would never have thought of that.

dkabasketlady 07-07-2010 09:49 PM

Perfect finish for a beautiful block!!!
