All I know is it is absolutely gorgeous and I love all the colors together.

I've seen that block recently, but I can't for the life of me recall its name. I'm sure someone here will located it long before I get home to my books to look it up for you!

It's beautiful, thought it might be Sister's Choice on point, but I see it's not (here's the link to that one & it's a 9 patch in the center) http://www.quiltville.com/sisterschoice.shtml

Could you show us a picture of a wider area of the quilt?

I'm almost thinking that the quilt could have been made of alternating blocks.

The center 9-patch looks similar to something called "Weathervane" in Barbara Brackman's book, "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns.

There is a version of page 224 (Number 1780) and one on page 499 (Number 4033). They are pieced differently and Brackman credits different designers for the two of them.

I think it looks like a variation of Arrow Crown turned or Maine Woods. Both are in Maggie Malones' book.

The "flower" part looks like it's drafted on a 3x3 or 6x6 grid. The other part that I think of as "sashing" or an alternate block looks like it's drafted on an 8x8 grid.

Those two would be easy to work with on 12-inch (finished size) block.

Looks like Weathervane (Maggie Malone, p.39 #425)

I agree.

Hi Thseabreze, If you want instructions for making this block, purchase the June issue of QUILTER'S WORLD as it has a wall hanging featured called Weathervane Stars. There is another quilt featured called Summer Shimmer that is almost as pretty as the block you have pictured. In fact, this issue has some of the prettiest quilts I've seen in months.

I don't know what it's called but it's beautiful.
