Well, I'm taking a break from packing, and I can attempt to TELL you how the block is constructed. Look at your photo. We can break the block down into 4 identical squares. Lets just consider the top left square with the purple and gold. Notice that the triangle between the gold and the teal/green diamond is actually 2 triangles.

OK, take your gold diamond and with it held vertically (up and down), sew a white triangle to the top left side. Now, sew a triangle (it's a smaller one) to the top right side. See how you now have a half-square triangle?

Now take your purple diamond, and sew a small triangle on the top left side, and the larger triangle on the top right side. You now have two half square triangles. Match the bottom colored edges of the diamonds, right sides together. You are going to have to be very careful to match up all the seams. Pin ruthlessly. Now sew together and you have a square.

Do the same thing with the other diamonds, making sure to check often that you are sewing the large and small triangles to the correct side. This is critical!!

Now, sew the squares together in pairs, and each pair will be half of your star. All you have to do is sew each pair together. It helps to have a written diagram of each step, and the different size squares laid out separately, so that you can double and triple check exactly what goes where when.

I found one of my blocks in the top of a bin. Here's a photo so you can see it goes together really well. 'Cause I'm not really an expert seamstress. :wink:

Like I said, it will be at least another week before I can dig out the actual written instructions & diagrams. Maybe I can do a tute then, if anyone is interested.

Thank you all so much! a couple girls want to do this next week..and some of them are newer to piecing.What a relief that i can show them a simplier way! set in seams are not my cup of tea, especially since mone didn't all come together the way they should of! What a wonderful group! yippee!

Here's one I did using the half-square triangles like the pattern posted by pittsburgpam.

Jannie, no, it's cut the Stack & Whack Method. Actually, it's a pre-cut kit I bought, but that's how it's cut. You can do it with any fabric.

And charmpacks, that is a really nice-looking quilt!!
