Your block is beautiful. Yes it probably isn't the best block to do your first paper piecing. My first paper piecing block ever was an Oregon star. 64 pieces in a 12 inch block. The first one took me about 10 hours. The owner of the quilt shop had spent about 5 minutes showing me how to paper piece. I made a queen sized quilt out of the stars. By the time I finished I could do a block in 1 hour. Paper piecing is pretty easy, the perfect way to make a complicated block.
