Carry Bag for Sewing Machine

4 Attachment(s)
I didn't like the travel/carry bag that my dealer gave me with my Elna -
It had small wheels which made the cart hard to pull across a gravel parking lot. It was quite large in comparision to the machine, and the strap to hold the machine steady broke the first time I used it. It was also hard for me to lift it into my car.
So, I decided to make a new one. I found the cart at Costco, and the fabrics came from my stash. The print material was pre-quilted, and the orange came from 2 fat quarters in my stash.
My DH contributed a plywood base cut to size and smoothed out, - he also contributed a lace and buckle (from a carry bag for a snowmobile helmet) that he wasn't using. I used this to make a drawstring tightener for the top. In the first picture the button is fastened, but under the flap with the extra loop tucked in.
I made the loop for the button with three positions so I can button it closed whether it's just the machine, or machine plus supplies.
I used Velcro to create a strap to attach the bag to the cart.
Now I can roll it to my car, detach the bag from the cart to put into the car (I restrain my machine with the seat belt to protect it and me). Then I can fold the cart and put it in.

What a creative mind to have made such. You did a beautiful job! If you were to sell at craft fairs I'm sure this would be very profitable.

Not sure I'd want to do on that scale, but an occasional one here or there wouldn't be too bad maybe....

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. If anyone else feels ready to take the plunge into custom bag sewing for their machine, I can always be contacted for assistance!

Great idea! I purchased a bag separate from my sewing machine. It's a nice looking bag just needs to be reinforce.

nicely done

That shows a lot of ingenuity. Did you work from a pattern or did you make your own pattern? It's a lot more useful than the other types of carriers I've used. Congratulations.Joyce in DE.

wow that is really nice!

" Did you work from a pattern or did you make your own pattern? "

Joyce - I made my own pattern up as I went along. I used it last weekend to go to a quilt day and it worked well. I did take alot of pictures along the way if they're of interest to anyone.
However, I have added a couple of the dollar store plastic cutting boards along the insides to give a little more firmenss - the bag would collapse down around the base as I was trying to load my machine. Still pondering how I will fix these in place, thinking some sort of envelope type pocket on the inside maybe??? They stand up there ok right now, as the top binding kind of hooks over them but I don't think that's an ideal set up. Of course, one way or another I'll figure it out, they're a cheap fix!

Ingenious, I say!
