CASA Tumbler

2 Attachment(s)
I received this fabric collection from another member here some time ago. I have been wanting to make something with it but you know that feeling of wanting a just right pattern. My friend sent a picture of a top she pieced with the tumbler template. I thought it reminded me of fish swimming, so as this line is called Bartholdi-Meow’s Reef, I thought I’d make this simple top. It is fast cutting and sewing- how fast you ask? It’s 40x55 and I cut it out yesterday. I also had a visitor for about 3 hours my son😃 so no sewing while he was here. I finished about 1:30 this afternoon. QB member, thank you again for this fabric!!! My first CASA quilt this year. Will be making more from this fabric this year.
I dislike when I resize pic and then it loads sideways- second pic is lying on a full bed top and upright. I will trim top and bottom straight maybe after quilting, probably.-Toogie

Beautiful! Hey, you could cut those out on a fold, to save a lot of time.

Afraid it wouldn’t work as well. If you cut out with the wide part of the tumbler on the fold, instead of piecing the pairs, then you would have to sew and pivot too much where it goes in and out to sew rows together that way.
The way I did it was straight line sewing. You sew row’s together, from top to bottom. Half a pair at time. You have to lay all the tumblers out first and keep them in order. I did however have my fabric doubled, to cut more than one at a time.
I drew the template and hubby cut it out of scrap plexiglass. A friend that had a small tumbler gave me measurements

I read on a blog this morning of a woman who made a quilt like this but turned the tumblers vertical. She said that way they reminded her of lava lamps. Either way, it's a great quilt.
