Where's the cat?

we spend so much money on our tree perches/cat houses don't we? Well i do. then they scratch them to oblivion!

Can you tell us how we can make one?

I've been thinking of doing something like that for my two. One had her claws removed when she came here, but the other one claws madly at his now not so nice scratching post.

I think I'd use plywood and either plastic rounds from Home Depot or Orchard Supply. Or maybe some of the pressed paper rounds (that's what it looks like) that I saw in a yard sale a few months ago. And of course some odd cuts of carpeting that matched my own carpets, more or less. These would be connected with glue and screws, pre drilled for ease of getting the screws deep enough.

Yours must be interchangeable. Looks to me like several different ways to make a feline happy. How does it stay together? My cat hurls himself into his small one, and he's
heavy enough to move it across the floor that way.

Yours is certainly pretty though, I love it.

I checked online and found several free plans. My husband wanted to build our cats one. When he saw the materials list, he had a fit. "this will be too expensive to build!!" I told him to get online and check them himself. He liked the one that used an old step ladder. Shelves were added and everything was covered with carpet. He has the carpet and the ladder. His staples were too short to attach the carpet. He put the ladder in the garage for the cats anyway and they are enjoying the shelves with the carpet just laying on them. I doubt DH will bother with doing any more since they are happy. . .

I don't even HAVE a cat and I LOVE IT!~

Thanks Mowiegirl, I finally found these pics. Thanks for the dimensions. I will try to make up some sort of diagram/pattern and share it with others if I can figure out how to. I'm guessing that the poles are either PVC pipes or carboard rounds (mailing tubes).Plywood landings/house. I will figure out the cheapest way to make them (because now my 2 "kids" want one too)

You CAN have one--think outside the box.

Check with a carpet store to see if they have any empty tubes that the rolls come on. Cheaper (I think) than PVC pipe would be cardboard 'forms' for concrete footers. If anyone has an old pet carrier, it could be covered inside and out.

A utility company wire spool would make a great base.

Plastic totes with one or two openings cut in could be fun.

Instead of 'rassling' carpet, wind rope or twine around the tube shapes.

C'mon folks. Yours doesn't have to look like the commercial ones--yours can be BETTER!

Great ideas but NO SCREWS! Use nuts and bolts, please, for kitties' safety. Longer nuts and bolts can hold the parts together and when the thing is loved to tatters, remove the nuts and bolts to use for the rebuild. ;-)
