They look like Janet Kime's cats (The Cat's Meow). I don't remember if the paw prints were in the book.

here's a close up of the back fabric (Debbie Mumm for JoAnn Fabrics)
and my paw print schematic (they were initially going to "walk up" one side of the border on the front and "walk down" the other, but i didn't like the background fabric once i sewed them, so they went on the back as a variation )
