Early this week I posted a pic of a cat quilt I made for my mom's friend. The consensus (and I agree) was that it was too juvenile for an older woman. So I ordered these Laurel Burch fabrics, and this is my second attempt at a cat quilt--same quilt pattern, different fabrics.
You can't see it very well in the pic, but the narrow border is purple and the outer border is black. The binding will be turquoise. This doesn't really look like I expected it to. I think it has a vaguely African look to it. I like it fine--I'm just not sure what I expected. By the way, I HATE the yellow fabric in it! |
I like the quilt. And actually the yellow fabric is my favorite in the quilt. Different strokes as they say.
Keep up the great work. Your mother's friend will love it. Kyia |
I think it looks great Harmony! It may be that with the yellow being next to its compliment, purple, it's vibrating a bit too much for you - but I think the cat (& cat's mom  ) will love it. :D:D:D:D:D

I think it's beautiful!
You did a great job! |
Wow! That was fast!!! Very pretty!! I like the yellow too.

I think you did a wonderful job. This quilt is so much more appropriate to the women you are giving it to. I think your use of the stripes gives the quilt character and the yellow is a very good accent color. I am always very sparing with my use of yellow but in that quilt is was necessary. When you do a full spectrum color quilt like this one is it is very important to put that splash of yellow.
did not mean to write a book   tricia |
Ohhh awesome Harmony!!! You did a fantastic job!! Hey!! I have the gold with the swirlies in it! It's some of my favorite fabric!!! I personally really like the yellow!!!
|
I got it done fast because that's what I did all day instead of editing the oral surgeon's deposition I was SUPPOSED to be working on!
Thanks for all your nice comments. You all make me feel better about the yellow, which was actually the first companion fabric I chose for it. I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt this yet. Wish I could afford to send it out to be done. I sure don't have the skills to machine quilt it, so I guess I'll have to do it by hand. Good thing Christmas is a ways down the road! |
If you could quilt some cat silhouettes I think it would be cool.

you may hate the yellow but you know it had to be there...looks great!!!

I love it! You did an awesome job! Laurel Burch made so many beautiful designs.

I really like your quilt. Much more age appropriate :). I think all the fabrics are great and the yellow gives it a zing. (You must have known it needed it if that was the first companion fabric you picked!!) I made a wall hanging once that a woman at the quilt shop told me it needed some orange in the border and I HATE ORANGE-but I listened to her and put it in and it was perfect for that quilt!! Sometimes we have to do what works for the quilt and not what is our personal favorite. You did good!!

I like it. You did a great job.

Great job! I'm not a yellow person myself, but do like it to brighten things up sometimes. I think it look great in it.

I love the whimsical feeling of the quilt. I think the yellow adds a little pizzazz. Good job. I know your mom's friend will love it.

I like the quilt very much, it's a "happy" quilt.

Being a dog person owned by a cat. I think it is a great gift for the lady. Yellow is not a good color for me,but I don't think the quilt would be as nice without it. The yellow cats seem to stand out to me. Wonderful Work. The Lady will be happy and proud to own it. I would dog person me. Bonnie
