Well I took a class on cathedral windows yesterday and it was awsome, not perfect but so much fun, take a while to make one, the gal included the muslin with the class but was a very thin muslin, so I got some and redid my block. This quilt shop is awsome, it has more 30's and civil war prints than I've ever seen in one place, and yesterday when I got there she had gotten in 55 new bolts of each, I got a few, but I could have shopped till I droped!!!!

buddy'smom 03-28-2010 09:37 AM

Thank you, it takes a whilt to make, but well worth it as you put it together as you go and no quilting needed.

shequilts 03-28-2010 10:17 AM

Beautiful work. I see an heirloom in the making!

buddy'smom 03-28-2010 10:29 AM

The teacher at the shop yesterday had her and it was amazing, will take forever, but I'll work on it a little at a time. Great take along project for sure.

sawsan 03-28-2010 10:29 AM

buddy'smom 03-28-2010 10:33 AM

My pratice block wasn't great, but it's gonna be a while but I hope the'll all fall into place as I go, ( or else I'll force them in?? )

Thank you, I think I may have enough 30's prints maybe not to have to use the same one twice?? Not sure as yet. Maybe if I go but the new 50 of them that came into the shop.

I just had knee surgery and my husband took me away to the mts. to rest....while I was there I worked on a cathedral windows quilt for my new grandbaby. I had taken a class but didn't really like to hand sew...with a bum knee couldn't do much else.

buddy'smom 03-29-2010 11:50 AM

Would love to see a picture of it.

azam 03-29-2010 11:57 AM

Love your blocks and your fabric! I just heard somone refer to a Cathedral Window Quilt as a "One Year Quilt" because it would take a person that long to put one together. Do you think this is accurate??? Can't wait to see how yours progresses.

lakelily 03-29-2010 12:02 PM

I've never heard of the quilt referred as a one year quilt, I thought it was quite funny. I got 64 squares sewn together, but haven't put the windows in yet. I'm going to put letters in them to spell out family names, so have to wait to hear what the childs name will be, boy or girl??

lakelily 03-29-2010 12:04 PM

forgot to add, that this will only be a small quilt for the crib or a wall hanging. Each square is just under 4 inches.

Eddie did a tutorial just a while ago on the Cathedral Window pattern - didn't seem to look like it would take a year to do - it's on my list! Please say it won't take me a year!

Elsie 03-29-2010 01:14 PM

Not sure how long it will take, guess it depends on how much it's worked on, this is all I got done in two day & nights, very slow going and yes the blocks are small. I'm enjoying doing this but have to put it back on hold as I have many thing's on the to-do list first. Colors are much brighter that they show in picture.

Thats funny. I have several "One Year Quilts" and they aren't Cathedral Window! I'm afraid that one would be a "Ten Year Quilt" for me!! They are sure beautiful.

Jingle 04-08-2010 08:59 AM

If I take more than a month to make a quilt - start to finish, it is only because we have been doing home improvement jobs or something. I make one quilt at a time and finish each before going on to another, works great for me.

Well the gal who taught the class said hers took one winter? We shall see.

buddy'smom 04-17-2010 02:56 PM

Has anyone checked out this shop??

http://thepatchworkco.com

I was there again today and they got in some awsome solids for 30's prints.

I am learning the Cathedral Window pattern now. I doing it slow so I learn it better. To me, it would be like a jeweler working on a diamond. Slow, sometimes tedious and brilliant when finished (not matter how long it takes!).
Might be better to look at the square 'at hand' rather than the ones down the road. It will be an heirloom.

I agree, this quilt will take some time to make, but will be well worth it, it's a stunning quilt.
