My guild had a challenge last May and the completed quilts are due at tomorrow nights meeting. I thought I'd give you all a sneak peak at my entry. We selected a brown paper bag that had three pieces of fabric and were to make a quilt using those fabrics plus others. We also had to use one of the "block party" blocks (we had one each month to learn new techniques) from the previous year. The fabrics were not the most attractive in the world and did not necessarily go together. All year long, our block party blocks had names that had to go with a dinner party, i.e. chips and salsa, blueberry cheesecake, etc.
Here is my finished challenge quilt. The three fabrics were 1. The grey in the red and grey block, upper left 2. the green/purple in the lower left and 3. the light blue in the upper right. I used four of the block party blocks and went with a "dinner" theme making it look like a dinner table with placemats and a center runner and called it "What's for dinner?". It sure was fun figuring out how to put it all together. Enjoy. |
Lori,
Your quilt is beautiful!! My, what a challenge that must have been. You sure rose to the occasion. Thank you for sharing with all of us. :D :D :D :D |
That's really pretty Lori - what a challenge to use fabrics 'in a bag' like that! But you did a great job and the place setting layout really works well! :D

I don't do challenges because I can never figure out how to use the fabrics given me. You did a great job coming up with a theme and carrying through with such different fabrics to work with.
Beautiful job and so unique
Nice job! I like your dinner theme, it really looks like a runner with placemats!

That was a really creative idea, LoriJ, and turned out such a beautiful quilt. :D

You really had to do some thinking to follow all the requirements! It turned out very nice.
Thanks all for your kind remarks! I always get a boost when I post here, thank you from the bottom of my heart! I'll let you all know the results after the guild meeting tomorrow night. :D :D :D

Beautiful quilt. I'm sure everyone will love it.
Thats so cool! I love your dinner idea solution! That is just the cutest and you did a great job with the "bag" fabrics...I bet yours was the best one.
What a beautiful quilt! Love the place setting idea.
Well, there were 48 quilts entered for the iron chef challenge. While I was pretty proud of what I was able to come up with, I have to tell you it didn't hold a candle to some of the beautiful quilts the talented members of the guild came up with! They were wonderful! I wish I had been able to take pictures of some of them, you would have been amazed!!! Thanks to everyone here for your support and encouragement!
And that is why I don't enter challenges. Other people always seem to have so much creativity, it's scary. I think your table setting showed a lot of creativity, and it's beautiful too, so don't sell it short. Other guild members are probably remembering yours as one of the best.
I think you're brilliant!
