What an awesome way to use stripes! I love it!

watson's mom 03-15-2010 10:53 PM

My friend loves card trick quilts. She would have fits if she saw this one.

MissTreated 03-16-2010 12:47 AM

Wow! that's gorgeous! Nice job matching all those stripes!!!

Quilt4u 03-16-2010 01:44 AM

Wow!!!! That is beautiful. I love it.

dgmoby 03-16-2010 01:50 AM

What a beautiful quilt! I can tell how much work, time and effort it took. And a ton of patience :)

You did a wonderful job - and should be very proud of it!

Irish Jan 03-16-2010 03:48 AM

all these quilts are sooooo beautiful, this one looks so hard to do and complicated, I could never do this one - or I should say "maybe one day" I am not that experienced to takle one like this - it is absoulutly beautiful.

JennyPenny, This is a beautiful quilt. I like the card trick pattern, also. I haven't seen it done with strip material. Eiltcoq.

Jingle 03-16-2010 04:36 AM

Absolutely Georgeous!!! You did a gorgeous job and so much attention to detail!!! I can see why someone would want to buy it and you can be sure it will be well taken care of. I want to someday try the card trick quilt, not with that kind of detail though. Good for you.

Deecee 03-16-2010 04:40 AM

I love the card trick block but this gives an added zing.
Great job!

Rachelcb80 03-16-2010 05:10 AM

Amazing!!! I can only imagine the work that went into cutting and matching up all those stripes. I'm not sure I could have let it go, but for the right price my husband would have probably made the decision for me! :)

azam 03-16-2010 10:06 AM

WOW!!! What a beautiful quilt! Great idea using border prints.

woody1229 03-16-2010 02:39 PM

Your use of the stripes gives the quilt such depth of field, almost like 3-D... like Avatar the movie!

hulahoop1 03-16-2010 03:40 PM

Geez! I have the fabric to make a Card Trick, but it's gonna look pretty boring compared to yours! You did a fabulous job! It's stunning! Congratulations.

Harmony 03-16-2010 03:42 PM

Boy, you went to a lot of trouble on this one! It's gorgeous! Hope the guy paid you a truckload of money for it!

Jeri M 03-16-2010 03:50 PM

Kascie 03-16-2010 08:00 PM

One of the prettiest quilts I've ever seen. I can understand why the gentleman who is a collector wanted it!!!!

JCL in FL 03-16-2010 08:19 PM

That is a beauty. It's hard to find the right fabric for something like that and you sure hit the mark. Congrats on a great quilt. I'm not sure I could have parted with it either.

quiltlady 03-16-2010 08:41 PM

I can understand why the gentleman wanted it. Too bad you didn't sell it with a clause that you got it back after he passed. You matched the lines so well , the first thing that I noticed was the use of only two colors in each set of cards. Makes it pop differently from most card tricks. Was that in the pattern or your idea?

loriet 03-17-2010 02:15 PM

I really like that pattern,,,very eye tricky

JJean 03-17-2010 05:00 PM

JCL in FL 03-18-2010 07:28 PM

How did you line up the strips to meet?

Yarn or Fabric 03-19-2010 04:41 AM

I do see why that man bought your quilt! That is really just awesome!
I think you're going to have a lot of people collecting interesting striped fabrics now!
I know I'm thinking about it!!!

zennia 03-19-2010 06:57 AM

I would also like to know how you lined the strips so they would meet. Great quilt.

WOW! Thank you everyone for all the compliements! OMG! I loved this quilt but I didn't think it would even get a second glance at a quilt show.

Here are a few answers to the questions here:
I'm not a Virgo but do have many of those personality traits. I have a mathematical mind and do have a lot of patience. I usually only work on one project at a time.

I didn't make a ton of money when I sold it, although it was more than I spent making it, including the services of the long-arm quilter. But, I figured if I kept the quilt, I would store it in a closet for 10 years until the time came to give it to my child for a wedding present. Better to have somebody using it/ displaying it.

How did I get the stripes to match? I tried to show examples using lined paper. First, you cut out a triangle out of the stripe fabric. Then you put that piece on top of the uncut fabric, rotated to match up. You cut a second triangle. The red line in the second photo shows where you would cut.

Thank you again!
