This quilt is what I made to donate to a fundraiser for CDH. CDH is an absence of a childs diaphragm or a hole in the diaphragm. The stomach, intestines, liver and spleen may go through the hole. This prevents the lungs from developing. The fundraiser is called Caden's Carnival. It is a carnival atmosphere to raise money for CDH in the name of Caden Frericks. He was born with this and unfortunately passed away shortly after his birth. His parents have held this fundraiser since his passing. My local quilt shop did the quilting as a donation to the fundraiser. It is A to Z quilting in Quincy, Illinois. The event is being held October 23. Hope they raise a lot of money. Thanks for looking. I like the way it turned out. Not bad for a newbie.

Very nice quilt!

Do you know if they plan to raffle it off or put it in a silent auction? There have been several threads on this topic. Raffling a quilt usually brings in a *lot* more money than silent auction. In some cases, the quilter would have been better off donating cash to the charity because the silent auction did not even cover the cost of materials. If it were me, I would want to check this out.

Very sweet, I'm sure it's bound to generate a sizable donation.

sustraley 10-09-2011 04:51 AM

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the info. I thought if nothing else, I could even buy it to make sure they get a generous amount for the cause. I have been to several fundraisers and the quilts usually bring over $100.00. So we will see.

It's wonderful...thank you for sharing the photo. I used to make quilts for the local Right to Life organization. They had a booth at the County Fair and sold raffle tickets for $1. One year they took in $1200 another year it was only $300. My mom and gram helped me quilt it. Was fun for us and I used the cost of the materials as a deductible donation.
Hope it brings in a lot of cash.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness. I have a 5 year old grandaughter who was born with CDH. She is one of the lucky ones who had surgery at 7 days old and is now a healthy beautiful little girl.

sustraley 10-10-2011 03:47 AM

Kim T--WONDERFUL that your little grand-daughter is a healthy 5 year old. God Bless her!!! She truly is a miracle.
