I had completed the piecing of a charity quilt in a rail fence pattern (or similar) -- really pretty colors. Most of the fabric is donated to our quilt guild so the source/quality is unknown. Anyway, it's a good time to practice FMQing (you know how everybody always says the secret is practice practice practice!). So I tried to mimic Charisma's design in a batik quilt she posted recently...I sure don't have her talent or skill...but was enjoying the process and experimentation. UNTIL I started having problems with my machine. Couldn't figure out why everything worked fine about half way and then suddenly didn't work at all (shredding thread, skipping stitches). Cleaned the machine, changed to a new (topstitch) needle, rethreaded multiple times, changed to single-hole needleplate. Someone suggested that I might have developed a burr on some part -- and I think that might have been part of the problem -- the part being the bobbin, so I changed that. Improvement! At some point I realized the thread would break almost every time I "entered" the light purple fabric! Hmmmmm. Wonder if it's a poly blend or something. Has anyone ever encountered that problem?

This is no heirloom but I'm pretty pleased.

One more thing -- I used the quick method of machine binding where you cut the backing 1-1/2" wider than the top/batting all around and then fold it over and stitch. Wow, was that quick, and it looks pretty good! Even got the corner mitering figured out.

Thanks for looking :-)

Love your quilting. I like to do the binding the same way on my quilts.

Very pretty! I am working on a rail fence for charity too!! Have my strips sewed together.... going to cut the blocks tonight and 'hopefully' get the rows sewed together.
