You'll have to look closely, but here is the example you asked for. It is the same top stitching you are already doing, except that it goes across the edge of the border on the front of the quilt (after I have machine stitched said border to the back). This stitch is a rather simple one as I was working with pretty busy fabric. |

Here's an example of a binding I finished today.

Nope, not at all, I use decorative stitches sometimes on my quilts too.

Hey guys,
That's what I thought the decorative stitches were for. To be used! Tonee White does primitive quilts with fusible applique and just kinda zig-zag's around the edges - not satin stitch - and it looks great. Michelle Watts from Alburquerque, NM doesn't like to do hand embroidery - so she uses her triple stitch and it looks great. Last week on Sewing with Nancy her guest did thread painting using 'distorted' fancy stitches and it looked great. There is no such thing as cheating. There is such a thing as being creative and inventive! ali |
The way I figure it is that if it enhances your quilt and you like the look, there's no such thing as cheating! Looks great on this quilt--good choice!

Candace and Sewtinker - those look wonderful! I usually don't like to hand stitch my bindings on the back (although I found this last one rather enjoyable) so I might just give that a try. :) Thanks for sharing the pics.

The more the merrier. No......it's not cheating!

The only difficult part (as you can probably see) is the corners. :P I was wondering though - is there any reason (besides it being too easy) that quilters don't use decorative stitches more? Does it not hold as well? |
I'm glad this isn't cheating since I do it myself!
