Chicken fabric placemats
2 Attachment(s)
I made these placemats out of my leftover chicken fabric (some may remember my attic windows chicken quilt). The quilting on these is terrible--I've discovered that quilting on my sewing machine kind of bores me--but I post the photos, including the close up, because I think the idea of quilting that looks-- is supposed to look--like chicken wire is a cute idea to go with the chicken motif.
I finished these mainly because I started them. I'm trying to make myself complete things I've already begun before I'll let myself go back to piecing, which, I think, is what I really like doing best. |
Very cute.

Adorable! Love the chickens!

I think they're cute, and the slightly wonky chicken wire quilting just enhances the design.

those r sew cute.........good job
|
Those are adorable!! I love the chicken wire quilting, really makes them unique.

These are just too darn cute. I appreciate the fact that you showed the quilting up close. I don't have the desire to quilt my own things and the fact that you do and show it teaches me a lot. Great job. You can be proud of your work. I like the idea of finishing things too. I have been trying to do that too, and believe it or not I feel like I am getting more done. Go for it!

I love them and your wire is really good. You should be proud.

Oh come on you gotta admit they make you smile. They are just so cute and endearing. They make me smile. Great job.

Love them! I remember that fabric.....didn't you get it at Walmart? I wish I could find some! Those chickens are so cute and I love the chicken wire quilting! And thanks from me, too, for closeups of the quilting! I save all the pics I can that show quilting patterns well to have for practicing as I go along. Seems like so many pics can't be enlarged.

These are adorable. I would love some like these.
|
cute placemats. the chicken wire just looks like it is well worn... no worries.
|
I personally love them and the fact you didn't think they were perfect but chose to share them anyway-I love it, great job and they did make me smile!!

Who wouldn't smile sitting at the table with these? Think you did a fine job + the chicken wire makes it!
The imagination and creativity the members of this board have never ceases to amaze me. |
Nicely done!

now these are really fun...I think they have a kind of quirky charm as well :)
|
Very cute I love chickens
|
I remember your attic windows quilt, because I printed it out for inspiration. When I finally found some of the fabric at WalMart it was not what I expected because you had improved it so much with the sashing choices you made. Love the chicken wire quilting - it is just right, and should be slightly wonky because that's how real-life chicken wire is. Good job!

Those are fantastic.....

Sew cute!!!!

Yes, I did get it at Wal-Mart, and when I was there before Easter I noticed they still had a bolt. Have you checked at their online site?
Thanks for all the nice comments from everyone. When I decided to quilt the red sides to look like chicken wire, I googled "wire fencing", printed out a page of what I wanted and thru trial and error discovered the best way to draw it on the placemats. I deliberately ended it above the bottom because I wanted the gap....though the gap differs somewhat placemat to placemat. I used thin slivers of soap first and then chalk to mark the wire fence pattern. Not perfect, but then I didn't manage to quilt it perfectly either! Kind of fun! I'm glad they are done, though. |
Thanks! I think they would be cute with black, yellow, or red--or a mix--of breakfast dishes --bowls, plates, mugs. These aren't my colors but I may get some anyway.

Very cute.

Very cute.

Love them! You did a great job, the chicken wire looks great, the wonky look gives it great character.
|
Those are lovely placemats and you did a great job on the machine quilting. :)
|
They are really cute.
|
Just adorable!!! Soooo cute.
|
very cute ......
|
Those are adorable and I love the chicken wire quilting. Who cares if it isn't perfect, it still looks great. If you agonized over it being perfect, it wouldn't of been as enjoyable to make. No one really notices but you. Love them!

Cute little chicks,
and you did a great job on the quilting. |
Those are so clucky cute. In my experience with chicken wire, even if it is perfect off the roll, it will b wonky as soon as I get it. That stuff is a challenge to work with and I think the quilting is charming.

Very fun !! My Chicken coop will be built once it warms up ! Fun idea ! Thanks ! Enjoy !

Those are wonderful and I LOVE the chicken wire you did! Great job!
|
They are adorable.
|
These are so cute.

The slightly bent chicken wire makes it look real, too. On a real farm there isn't much straight fencing and wire! At least not when I was growing up! LOL! Love the placemats - I had a "chicken" decor for many years then went to sunflowers, the chickens remind me of a really happy time in my life. Thanks for sharing.

The look like fun!!
