Chicken table mat 42 x 68

I had these panels in my stash that I purchased several years ago. All the fabric was from stash. Quilted on my Janome mc. I will never use yellow chalk again. I learned a lot of lessons, the hard way from this one.

Great job. Did you have trouble with the yellow chalk? Let us know what happened with it. Love the chickens.

I love the chickens!. You did a great job on the quilting. I'm curious about the yellow chalk too. What happened with it?

I know a gal and I myself have done this; when using chalk test it on a dark fabric, wait about 30 minutes and go back to wipe it off with a piece of felt like they use on old chalk boards. It usually comes right off if it hasn't gotten wet. 100% wool yarn will do this also. Shouldn't have a problem. To make colored chalk usually a dye is mixed in that at some point was wet. So when chalk gets damp it has a tendency to set. My cousins kids used to draw on their driveways but they first used a broom to brush it off before hosing the driveway to clean. Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to sweep flour excess than it is to mop?

Love the chickens! Nicely done~~

Yes,my last two projects. Used yellow clover. Now some of it did come out.But where my marks got a little on the heavy side. There still there. I did try removing before. Eraser fabric. Pretreated with ink remover. Maybe they will come out, with repeated washing. But I did wash twice. The other one a smaller table runner. Was worst. It had some cotton polyester materials for my one color. I don't normally use this mix in my quilts, I wanted to use this fabric up. And it was fine for this project. But the yellow chalk didn't come out of the mixed cotton, poly. If this would of been a really special project. I sure would be sad. I think I just handled the chicken quilt to much. A lot of changing my mind on quilting. Ripping out. And the chalk worked in way into material.Maybe even the pushing and turning in the DSM. I don't think I'll ever use it again. We put to much time into these projects to have them ruined.

Love those chickens! I am a kitchen rooster collector myself.
Oh, the dreaded yellow markings! I too found the yellow chalk is very hard to get out. ( I used the Allory chalk set).I also recently used the Sewline ceramic pencil leads in yellow on a white border and I regret it to no end. I used the fabric eraser that Sewline sells, then used a dry Magic Eraser, then used the Magic Eraser wet, then I tried washing just the area with plain water, then water and Tide, water with Era, and finally water with Dawn dish soap. I read that using 5 parts water to 2 parts white vinegar should work. That is my next step. If that doesn't work, I am stuck ripping out the binding and re-doing it. I hope you didn't use the yellow chalk on this table topper. Too fantastic of a job to have to go through removing yellow markings. |
That's a beauty, even if it did put you through a lot to get it done! Love the display over the railing! Nice going on work and display!

I love it! And your quilting looks top notch.

Oh I'm a Rooster/chicken fan!! I love this.

Yellow chalk.....never again for me !!! I made a wall hanging for a friend and used yellow chalk to mark the top....it did not come out!! I tried everything I could think of. After that I read several times not to use the yellow....so I learned the hard way. I never did give it to her because of the chalk marking. So disappointing! Now I am afraid to use anything to mark my tops.

Very pretty quilt.

It looks great! I like your wood deck too.

I hate the clover yellow chalk. I know trace my patterns onto goldens tissue paper and machine quilt the design on the quilt. no marks. I also use rules and masking tape. I love the quilt. Luann

Had a problem with yellow and with orange Clover chalk. Will never take a chance on either of them again. I will use frixion pens, so who cares if comes back, put in the dryer. I will also use white pounce powder with stencils, I don't use the pounce holder though, I use a cheapy small foam brush and dip into the chalk and lightly brush over the stencil. Brushes off nicely.
