This is a very special quilt for my first grandchild, all the letters have a fabric that starts with that letter, A has acorn fabric etc... It took months and traveling from Denver to South Carolina to visit my children to find it all. That is except for the X, yes I know alot of you are thinking x-ray fabric. But I couldn't find it anywhere, even on line. Then I had an epiphany I used her ultra-sound and transfered it to fabric. Look closely, each leg of the letter is a different body part, her profile, leg, her little skull, and spine. The red between the border is a strip of chennille. and I added buttons, on representing each letter, Still looking for a few of them!!

Oh, that is a treasure. Great idea for the 'x'.
Congrats on your first grandchild. Now, you'll have to make an ABC quilt....or something just as special... for all the other grandkids that come along. ranger |
That really is a treasure! I'd love to see some close ups if you can - especially of the X block. :D

Adorable! What a keepsake!

That is absolutely gorgeous!! That will be one very loved grandbaby!!
May I be bold enough to point one thing out? Buttons no matter how well they are sewn on become a choking hazard for babies. Just imagine those sharp little teeth and how quickly they can chew through a few threads. I'd suggest keeping the buttons separate and when she is three and is more understanding of these things make it a project for the two of you to sew the buttons on for her as she learns her ABC's. Sorry to point that out but I really don't want to see this picture in an "OMG I can't believe this happened" post down the road. PS... I have been saying the same thing about giving rag quilts to babies for years but I still see postings every now and then of gorgeous rag quilts that I cringe at. |
Great job she's going to love it.
|
