HeyPatrice,
Just saw the picture of Chisolm Trails and it is great. I love the colors. Go this week-end for 2 days of classes on quilt machine. Am excited. Love, Peggy |
Your usual beautiful work Patrice.....
One question??? WHEN DO YOU SLEEP!!! That beautiful quilt top was on PAPER yesterday... Wanna give us a lesson on SPEED cutting?? lol! Serioulsy -turned out lovely!
thanks. :-)
as i starch the fabrics, i layer them in sewing order, right sides together. the number of layers depends on how many pieces i need to cut from different combinations of fabrics. i'm usually cutting through at least four layers. i limit myself to no more than 8 layers. even with a 60mm cutter, it gets too hard to cut precisely through a pile any higher than that. if i'm using shop-weight fabrics, 6 is a more sensible limit. by layering to cut, the pieces i sew together are already matched in size and ready to run through the machine. when i'm really lucky, they "stick" together so i don't even need to line them up before they go under the foot. |
you have your organization techniques down to a science, Patrice! I usually think of myself as in a minority of ppl that love red, but so many on here said they did. Of course, I do love some of everything. You should see my closet. I line my clothes up, depending on color of tops, pants underneath, so when you look in, all color coordinated.
hubby thinks my habits are...not sure. He teases me a lot, but he knows it works for me. I rotate laundry when I put it away. i tell him, my funny ways are the reason he walks around longer without holes in his socks and undies, the sheets and towels, etc. last longer.......for me quilting spills into all areas of life. yeah, quilt, nap, quilt some more....ahhhh, the good life! |

That's beautiful. Where did the nAme come from or is it the pattern?
Wow! Not MY choice of colors, but it definitely works. Please show it when you have it quilted.

Patrice, your quilt is just lovely. I see the Chisholm Trail block, but what is the name of the second block you used?
wow, that's a remarkable quilt. I have never seen that design, I don't think. it's very pretty.
very pretty!!!
Wow very striking!
It's beautiful! How do you plan to quilt it?
Oh, how pretty. You did a great job with your color choices. It gives your quilt wonderful movement. It's going to be beautiful with the dark binding. Just like framing a picture.
Very cool!!

Found both blocks, the Chisholm Trails block http://www.quilterscache.com/C/ChisholmTrailBlock.html and the Plaited Block http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PlaitedBlockBlock.html
What a great combination!!! Such an inspiration to us all. |
Thanks, Dollyo. I swear I looked up "plaits" in Quilter's Cache, but I obviously did a poor job at it. The combination of the two really does make a great looking quilt.
Just lovely! I sure like your use of the different shades of red. I would imagine that was a bit of a challenge and caused you to stay focused at all times. Beautiful result!
Very pretty. I especially like the corners. Thank you for sharing.
Patrice this is absolutely gorgeous!! did you use a particular fabric collection or just pull from the stash? I can imagine that this pix does not do justice to the actual beauty of this quilt. I love 2 color quilts! Your input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the compliments. :)
i was lucky with this one. i got everything i needed from my stash. i'm not a skilled quilter at all, so i just did stitch-at-the-ditch for the whole thing. the plaits block drove me a bit batty. the piecing is easy. i tend to get mixed up, though, and put colors in the wrong places. lots of reverse stitching until it's all where it's supposed to be. LOL that isn't the block. it's me. happens a lot, no matter what i'm making. LOL the plaits block makes a great alternating block. it works with lots of different primary blocks - especially stars. you will usually end up with several different "patterns" depending on where you focus in the layout. it's like making three or four quilts at once. both blocks are in the public domain, so i don't claim any copyrights. if you think you'd like to try one, i've attached a blank worksheet. grab some colored pencils and plan yours. :) i'd love to see photos if anybody does one. |
Stunning! Love the design and the color choices! You do such beautiful work, you inspire me!
