whew what a lot of work this one was! I'm so excited though this is my 1st applique quilt and it was alot of fun. I can already tell there will be many more :) I am stressing though about how to quilt it. I might just do some stippling around the applique so I don't have to go through them... some of them are pretty thick! What do you think is that a good idea?

Beautiful. Another alternative is to echo quilt.

You beat me to that one, Lesley. That was my thought too. Great minds and all that stuff.

Great job! I also would echo quilt it.

lizzy 09-21-2011 02:18 AM

If the applique is really thick, I would stipple around the designs. It makes the design really stand out. For me echo quilting is hard, especially with small spaces around your applique designs. Beautiful quilt.

It's gorgeous! Beautiful! I would echo quilt some blocks, and stipple others. One day I'll get around to making one as well...
Blessings,
MaryAnna

It is so cute. You will enjoy it so.

Did you put fusible on the back of the appliques. There is a thing called windowing. You cut out the center part of the fusible so that there is a quarter inch line of fusible on the applique and nothing in the center. Then if you have to put a second piece of applique in the center of the first, it doesn't get so thick.

thanks so much everyone! I had so much fun making this... I just hope I quilt it someday LOL. I need to get over being scared about it. I wish I had the $ to send it out to be quilted.

THANK YOU so much! I already placed my order! :) Thanks!!!

muddlingabout 09-21-2011 07:30 AM

Can really appreciate that applique and all of the thread changes. My first thought was also echo around figures, stitch in ditch on separators, then whatever design in the borders, holly or words "Oh, Holy Night", or ?????
