I finished this one today. It's a large lap size and I followed the Yellow Brick Road Pattern. I had some older, lesser quality type VIP etc. fabric that I forced myself to use. I figure since it's only going to come out at Christmas, it may hold up for a few years;> I'm going to break out of my comfort zone and FMQ it with gold, metallic thread. Yes, it's July and yes it's a Christmas quilt. It's never to early!

I love it, I hope you show a picture of the quilting. Never too early to start your Christmas sewing.

Beautiful quilt.

Terry Atkinson patterns are terrific.

I think you did an exceptional job of selecting Christmas prints which look real rich together. How many different fabrics did you use?

It is neat that you are stepping out of your comfort zone with the thread for FMQ. Congrats!!

Candace 07-27-2010 05:42 PM

Thanks. I think there are 12 different fabrics.

Christmas in July is good and you are right never to earlie.
Ver nice job, looking forward to the gold metalic quilting.
What metalic are you using? Remember special metalic needle and if it is the flat thread it must be vertical on the spool holder.
You probably already know that....sorry just always teaching and willing to help.

Which fabrics do you have? I have to say, they're not very nice quality and feel like cardboard to me:< But, it's good to get them used up and out of my stash! For the backing I'm using a gold LQS fabric that although it feels nice, has some "errors" in it so I got it for cheap. I figure the FMQ will disguise and printing boo-boos.

I have the candy canes and holly fabrics. Each one in several colors. I bought the fabrics from my niece when she was selling all of her mom's quilting supplies. (My sister-in-law was killed in a car crash a few years ago.) I agree that a lot of the fabric isn't real good quality and that's probably why I haven't used them. I did make a couple of table runners but still have a lot left. I also got a lot of other fabrics too. My niece was trying to get rid of a crazy amount of stuff, so I ended up buying a serger, some quilting tools, and about 300 yds of fabric. Most of it in 3 to 5 yard pieces. I'll probably never get it all used up, but I'm having lots of fun trying!!

Candace 07-28-2010 02:24 PM

Yeah, it's like they wove in a little steel with the cotton! Maybe with multiple washings it'll soften up. I washed it once and it got a smidge better. I think using this type quality on quilts that you're attempting a new technique is a great idea. If you're not happy with the outcome, at least the fabric won't have set you back a small fortune.

So, use it up, Carol! :>
